He just has to show consistency if he can play somewhere near the level that he already has shown, even with some slight defensive problems I believe he'll prove exactly how good he can be.  I don't see it being that hard to do considering how easy he makes it look.  He just has way too much talent to not consider him world class, for me that is.  I have absolutely no problem spending high amounts of money when you buy quality.  I'm a big believer in getting what you pay for.. in most instances.

The best fullback in the world would have to be maicon , so physically strong , great dribbler , crosser , and can defend just as well . Ramos is :censored: overrated i'd take johnson over him any day

Johnson is already a very good full back and can only get better I think. He has pace, is strong, good game intelligence and can dribble, just needs to work a bit on his shooting and he'll be lethal.

I've never seen much of Maicon so I didn't say anything on him and yeah Ramos is overrated.

Thats a big statement mate and one i reckon i agree with - one thing he seems to have over alves etc is his ability to change  direction at pace - alves is a very good dribbler with step overs and very offensive but pace wise and directness johnson is up there with the best at the moment

Probably our best player again tonight.  He looks dangerous every time he's on the ball and his ability to ghost past a defender on the dribble is excellent.  Unfortunately, too few others were on his wavelength tonight in attack.  I thought he did well defending tonight also.  A few times he was isolated against a pacey, tricky Ashley Young on the counter and made some vital interceptions and tackles.  One of the few positives from a poor night at the office.

Agreed Bob he barely put a foot wrong all night, absolutely top class performance.

Its probably just me , but I didn't think Johnson had a good game tonight Mick. I thought he had 2 excellent spells of about 5 to10 mins, one early in the second half and one late on but apart from that I thought he was distinctly average. He certainly didn't do much wrong, but I didn't think he did that much right either.

I also didn't like Skrtel and Carra spending so much time defending out wide rather than being in the middle.

All in all id say most are pretty pleased with him so far. Just a shame the rest of the team have been so poor. (Stoke aside)

I think it had much to do with Scottbot's point in the other thread, mate: Villa seemed focused on denying him the ball as much as possible and on doubling up on him when he did get the ball.  He certainly found things more congested out wide tonight.  So, there were stretches there where he had to play the ball backwards to encourage a different point of attack.  On the occasions that he did take players on, I thought he almost always got past the first man but was soon surrounded by white shirts.  His teammates really didn't offer much help in those instances--Kuyt in particular, was in one of his 'pick the wrong option' modes.  Full credit to Villa, they came with a gameplan that involved not only ruffling Torres' feathers and closing Gerrard down but also keeping Johnson from isolating their fullback as well...sadly for us, it worked.

139000 a week?

It has emerged that Liverpool are paying Glen Johnson a staggering £139,000 a week.

Eyebrows were raised when the Reds splashed out £17million on the Portsmouth right-back this summer but his salary will leave fans gobsmacked.

The sum must make him the best paid full back in the world - even after Chelsea defender Ashley Cole agreed a new £120,000-a-week deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Even Manchester City, who have spent an incredible £118million on players this summer, will pay latest signing Joleon Lescott only a reported £94,000 a week.

Spiralling wages in the Barclays Premier League have reached such a crazy level that Liverpool, so desperate to ensure Chelsea would not beat them for the signature of Johnson, were forced to offer a huge contract.

This cant be true, can it?

We are supposed to be skint and we offer a full back this? He is on more than Torres FFS
