???  ??? , Luis may have scored some spectucalr goals but it tems of consistency he's more inconsistent than yossi . Yossi doesn't lose the ball as much as him and is a better crosser , infact he's a better all rounder

has hell frozen over ?  :D

It's all opinions which is lovely, but I think Luis Garcia was in a different stratosphere to Yossi Benayoun. Benayoun runs around more, I'll give him that.

Think that's an insult to Benayoun mate... 'runs around more'??

I like both players but Benayoun is clearly the better all round footballer and you'll get a lot more value for money out of him over a season.

He's a better passer, tracks back, tackles surprisingly well and is far more use in midfield skirmishes.  He makes less mistakes, doesn't give away possession, can dribble better... the list goes on.

Garcia on the other hand is a big game player who produced goals (not necessarily performances) when the chips were down.  But there's not a lot between their scoring rates - Benayoun is good for 10-12 goals a season (without always starting) and he's also produced in big games - Madrid 1-0, Arsenal 4-4, Madrid 4-0 for examples.

For me it's a no brainer, I loved wee Luis but Benayoun is head and shoulders above as a footballer.

Like I say John it's about opinions. Garcia was a really top header of the ball, not just for a little bloke but by any standards. Picked the flight early and attacked it. Garcia also in the box was very predatory. If you watched him play for half an hour you knew that if he was played in a position where he could get into the box, he'd score plenty of goals. His movement was very reminicent of Fowler in many respects, while everyone else was pulling a funny slow mo face and jumping up on the spot while the ball hit the post, Luis was taking nthe three steps necessary to get there and tap it in. Luis had much the better shot from distance, both from a technical ball striking point of view and from a power perspective. He was almost Beardsleyesque in that he could hit it hard with very little backlift, using the slight lean forward then the clearing of the right shoulder to generate power.

garcia also had that little sprinkling of stardust, that fantasy element of the unknown whereby a little flick or a dink or a shimmy could unlock the tightest of defences. Yes he gave the ball away, yes he was frustrating but it's worth remembering he was often played out of position on the wing. If we had him now athis best, he could take Gerrards slot and we could switch the captain back to central mid. There's S@ints creative second striker.

I do agreee with though that there is absolutely no comparison, there isn't in my view, although we totally disagree on who is superior     :D

I woudl say as far as Yossi is concerned as well, that he had a good little spell last season. Lets wait and see how he goes this time, without the hat tricks against pub teams before we draw too many conclusions.

Garcia all the way for me though, a brilliant little player at his best.

in terms of skills, Garcia is the best player to play for Liverpool in the past few years... its something we desperately lack today and its the one thing that makes Benayoun valuable to our side.. if Babel steps it up a notch or two he'll be the player Rafa looks at first when 0-0 at the Brittania rather than Benayoun.. if we had Garcia, it would be a no brainer...

Dont agree with your logic there J.Craig either... between Gerrard and Messi, gerrard is the faster, stronger, the better passer, better with long shots, better header of the ball.. does that make him head and shoulders above as a footballer ? Luis Garcia is the more creative of the two.. the better at picking a through ball.. better with long range attempts and better from close range... better crosser of the ball and had the gift of playing with both feet... very similar to Hleb with Arsenal except he contibuted more in the big games...
Annoying as fck at times but still, all it took was a moment of genius... i'd take him ahead of Benayoun especially in a substitute role ...

Opinions = @rseholes

I do agree on the Garcia/Fowler comparison.  Garcia is one of the few players we've had in Fowler's class in terms of finishing.  If he'd had either a bit more pace or a bit more strength he could have been an awesome centre forward.  In fact it's his lack of body strength that probably held him back most, still a quality wee player though :nod

The fact that we knocked Barca back for him shows how highly he is rated and that we rate him,  towards the end of the season he was one the best players and if he Carry's that form on this season he may well establish himself.

I'm not sure us knocking Barca back for Benayoun is a "fact" mate to be honest. To be perfectly honest, I think it's b0ll0cks.

He is a decent little impact player, bits and pieces of him add up to being decent. He'd have about as much chance of getting a game for Barcelona on a regular basis as me though, lets be serious.

He'll not be getting a regular game for us either if we've got serious pretensions of winning the league.

Yes, I'm fairly certain the 'Benayoun to Barca' rumour was one of those whimsical paper rumours that get tossed about like confetti at a Sardinian wedding once the transfer window is about to swing open.  It made me laugh at the time and it still makes me chuckle now.  Messi, Xavi and co must have had kittens when they read that!

According to the greek newspapers, Olympiacos is trying to sign Benayoun for 6 million euros, and offering him 2 million euros for a year. LFC didn't turn down the offer yet.
