we need a solid defender who can take care of business in our own end. Those normally can be found around 5 million.

Instead of paying 10 million+ for that extra flair on a defender, why not use that cash to get better attacking wingers, with more flair and creativity?

If Rafa thinks Reira and Kuyt are the best you can get then I really am worried.

In the system we play you need a full back who can attack and defend..Johnson,is IMO one of if not the most attacking minded "defender" in the League!

I worry though that he may leave our centre backs with too much to do at times, because he is not great defensively!
The price as well is a bit steep, but im not gonna cry about it.Real Madrid put the whole transfer market up in price last week. Also people saying it does'nt matter if hes English or not?Bullsh'it it does!If Platini gets his way we will be needing more homegrown players.Teams know this,so the big 4 especially who have less English players than the rest of the League are being charged for it!Shi'te but true!

Anyway forget about the ££ for a second!

Nearly every fecker on here was giving off for most of last season about "Defensive Rafa" and all that.He goes out and gets a defender(who aint great at defending ok). :D but is gonna be a right pain to teams going forward..and the same ones are complaining!

Im not over the moon with the signing but to me it signifies we are going all out attack next season like we did in the latter part of last!!
And what a fuc'king beautiful joy that was to watch!!
ATACK..ATTACK...ATTACK!!
Bring it on!! :buttrock

He is a good player

have to admit mate, when we signed Torres I wasn't too excited by his record, and Sabre certainly dampened some of the hype that had been aimed at him but he's looking like a legend at this club already

we've signed a lot of players down the years and nearly all of them have been names when people look at them they say 'why have we went for him' and the sceptisism begins. I'll admit I've been guilty of it in the past but if someone can name me a player in the current first team, signed by Rafa where people weren't cynical at first I'll certainly be surprised.

Anyway, all this Arbeloa stuff, who signed him? and who knew of him before we signed him? I'll be surprised if anyone thought he would join us and slot straight into our defence and do a solid job after Steve Finnan.

Give Glen Johnson a chance before knocking the lad

I think Arby was good defensively but he can't do it alone as many times, either Mascherano or Kuyt came back to help. So, this might hide some of his problem. I think this trend will continue if Johnson in fact signed with us. So, if he goes full in attacking, we wouldn't be as exploit on the RB defensively as one thinks. Will wait and see but we always have one of the better defensive record ever since Rafa took over. So, if letting in a few more goals while we are able to score more and result in couple more wins. This would be a worthy signing since the difference to win the league this season is only a few wins.

no doubt hes one of the best attacking fullbacks around, check out some of his goals and assists on youtube! and hes young and english whitch are bonus's
he isnt the strongest defensively but if anyne can sort that out its rafa and with carraghar mascherano and kuyt playing on his side hell have no sortage of help
im happy with this signing (if its made) because its exactly what we need young players who have experience and are god enough for an instant starting position
now all we need is silva and well have a great season imo, people go on about cover for torres but i think this is were we need to put faith in the likes of babel ngog nemeth and pachecco they are all young and have alot of potential whitch wont be fufilled in the reserves

or we could always get back owen on the cheap?? not for me personally but wouldnt be gutted if he did come back aslong as he knws his place :)

If he had his medical last night he should have signed by now so there would have been some sort of press release or announcment? I think he is speaking with Chelsea. :(

surely its not that difficult of a decision. Boyhood club sold him on and now come crawling back, tell them to jog on and help their rivals win the league.

Either that or he's a money grabbing w@nker :D

Again, if he choses Chelsea, then so be it. I always believe that things happened for a reason. Either way, it might be a silver lining in disguise. We all know that we can't compete money wise. So, for those who decided to come, I will most certainly welcome to give them a chance no matter if he is English, Italian, Spanish or whatever you can think of. If we can't get anyone significant, the rest of our squad just need to pick it up more. Who knows, some players may end up performing better than expected. End up players such as Spearing may prove to be a worthy keep if given the chance. I suppose we just have to stay positive and let Rafa do his job.

Whats Spearing got to do with it? He doesn't even play in that position. Also I fail to see how it could be a silver lining if he goes to Chelsea as there isn't anyone else around we can go for without spending the same if not more. Definatley not anyone in the league. Also he is English which will be important once that 6+5 kicks in.

You got to calm down man. I used Spearing only as an example that these younger players might get a chance to play more but that doesn't mean spearing will be playing for every position on the team man. You got to lighten up as I can see most of your recent comment does seem a bit anguish..... The fact that you don't see the silver lining doesn't mean there isn't one. Just wait and see.

I know you are frustrated but you need to know how to deal with things when they don't go your way or may not go your way. Take it easy as realistically, you can't do anything no matter what you say on here. Cheer up.
