Assistant Manager apparently ..

Now I wonder, who did he have by far his most successful spell as assistant manager under? I hope that the constant mentioning of his name by people hasn't loaded up the dice of fate to the extent that we're about to become the new Bolton. Surely not   :;):

It's not quite "Big Sam yeh!!", but it is "Little Sam yeh!!!" instead.

:D

how this game of hope, frustration,, thrills and passion 'in Rafa I trust' and get 'them yanks out'...  can bring out the best and worst in us all .. it's been quite a season off and on the pitch ... Yehhhh !!!

There's been more scathing backing for the manager and support of his transfer plans by the skipper today it certainly looks like it will be an interesting summer..

Nice little piece in the echo on Sammy tonight you can see how much he loves this club well in Sammy lad

I love coming in to this fantastic club each day says Liverpool FC legend Sammy Lee
Oct 17 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

HAVING received his Anfield education during an era when every one of Ronnie Moran's pupils were schooled in the art of keeping your feet in the ground, Sammy Lee was never likely to get carried away by Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season.

“You don't win any prizes in October,” insists Rafa Benitez's recently appointed assistant manager, before apologising for lapsing into clichés.

Not that the club's fans will seek any apologies, for they know only too well that one of the secrets of Liverpool's past success was taking every game as it comes and never allowing victories or achievements to change your outlook.

Lee is thrilled with the way Liverpool have started the season and with five wins and two draws in their first seven league games and a pair of victories in their opening two Champions League fixtures he has every right to be so.

He said: “We are pleased with the way we have started the season and the way we are progressing, of course we are. But I have to stress we are still in October and there is a long way to go.

“The thing that pleases me most though is that we are working with a great bunch of lads who are really hungry for success and who are keen to take on board Rafa's ideas about the way he wants us to play. That's a really good sign because if you've got lads like we have then you've got a chance.

“There are still improvements that can be made though and that's always the case no matter who you are. The players who work the hardest and who always try to improve are usually the ones who are the most successful. That goes for coaches and managers as well of course.”

There is no doubt Lee, 49, is thoroughly enjoying his third spell at the club he supported as a boy and one of the main reasons for that is the feeling he is working alongside one of the finest managers in European football.

“I love coming in every day and that's not in any way an exaggeration because this is a great club, a very special club,” he said.

“It's great to work with the players and it's also great to work with the staff we've got here.

“You can't help but be impressed with the manager because he is one of the best around, and his attention to detail and preparation is second to none.

“From my own point of view, it's great to be able to learn from him and as far as I'm concerned it's a pleasure to work with him.”

One of the reasons why Lee is such a strict adherent to the philosophy of not getting carried away is that experience tells him things have a habit of going wrong just when you think nothing can.

On Wednesday night that experience stood him in good stead when news filtered through that both Fernando Torres and Ryan Babel had been injured while on international duty.

As Lee knows, such occurrences may well be frustrating but they are also occupational hazards in football and the test is how well you deal with them.

“The injuries are disappointing because in a perfect world you'd want all of your players to be fit all of the time,” he said. “But football isn't like that and that's why we need such a strong squad.

“You can be affected by injuries or loss of form at any time and when that happens it is vital that you have players who can come into the team and take their chance.

“That's exactly what this football club has always been about and if Fernando and Ryan are forced to miss any games we will all be disappointed for them but hopefully whoever comes in for them will do a good job.”

Wigan visit Anfield tomorrow as Liverpool seek to extend their unbeaten start to the season to an eighth league game.

Steve Bruce's side lie 13th in the Premier League table – 11 places behind the Reds – and the form book points firmly towards a home win.

Typically, though, Lee refuses to buy into the idea that any results can be predicted in a league as competitive as this one.

“It's another cliché but there really are no easy games in this league,” he said. “You have to earn every result you get because teams aren't just going to roll over and let you walk all over them.

“We have the utmost respect for every team in this league and this will be no different when we play Wigan tomorrow.

“Steve Bruce is doing a good job up there and we know Wigan will come to Anfield and will be very well organised and hard to beat.

“That's the way it should be and no one at this club will be taking anything for granted.

“People say that you are only as good as your last game but for me you are only as good as your next one and in this case it's Wigan who are up next for us and we know we will have to play well if we are going to beat them.”

The great Ronnie Moran will be proud of one of his star pupils. Sammy Lee undoubtedly speaks with his master's voice – and Liverpool are all the better for it.

Nice read

People say that you are only as good as your last game but for me you are only as good as your next one and in this case it's Wigan who are up next for us and we know we will have to play well if we are going to beat them

I like this idea.

If a member of this forum browses posts from August to here, he'll find different moods concerning the team.

2 wins next, and we'll have voices talking about the title, which is normal because every fan in the world dreams, but it would be still a bit premature.

2 draws next, and we'll have voices talking about "yet another year like the last one", not to mention opinions that doubt of the manager's ability to take basic managerial decissions.

I guess that it's difficult to find a middle ground because feelings are involved, but it would be the best. We're talking about the title all the time because that's what we wish, but besides a cliche, it's true, Prizes are not won in October.

looks like sammy's made a positive impact - speaks spanish too, so no-doubt has helped build a strong team ethic - teams win titles, not individuals.
