That view's based on what, exactly?  ???  (Figured I'd get in there first before Joe lets fly :D )

To be honest it does seem strange giving Insua a new contract just after supposedly offering him as a p/x to other clubs. The same thing supposedly happened last season with Alonso being offered as a p/x against Eto'o, but when the p/x fell through...... a new contract.

I wonder how credible those rumours were though, mate?  Were we really shopping Insua around?  Even so, I'd hardly call the lad shyte! :D

I wouldn't call Insua shyte , but maybe surplus to requirements if Dossena ever finally puts pen to paper?

Its now the second day of the official transfer season and we still haven't bought anyone!!!! :D

I thought Insua played well in the couple of games he had last season, but with the signing of Dossena, Aurelio coming back and Arbeloa who can fill in, I think we should have the left back spot sorted.

The problem is though Reg giving a three year contract to a player already under contract who may be surplus to requirements means the player can sit on their a$$ similar to what Diao did for three years(if they are a kunt). Better if possible to sell players as soon as they no longer figure in our future.

Presumbly we hung onto Sissoko for an extra six months just in case the Masch deal fell through, but it not only cost us his wages for 6 months(inc a signing fee) but his value dropped as well.

It just seems strange to me offering players new deals when you are trying to offload them (especially when they have a few years to run on their present contracts.)

If we pull out now, we save ourselves 18M which could be used for a fast winger, and we leave Aston Villa in deep shyt, because they will be stuck with a captain who no longer wants to play for them.

I thought Insua played well in the couple of games he had last season, but with the signing of Dossena, Aurelio coming back and Arbeloa who can fill in, I think we should have the left back spot sorted.

I think that if Dossena shows signs that he can adapt, that selling Aurelio might become an option for late august or in January. Maybe we could send him back to Valencia in exchange for a certain someone  :D  Because at the moment, the left back position is ridiculous. Currently there is record defensive signing in LFC history Dossena (if he ever gets back from honeymoon), first choice left back from last year, a decent player, Fabio Aurelio, solid fill in man that wont do a step wrong and champion of Europe, Alvaro Arbeloa, and U20 world champion, non-nemeth reserve co-player of the season Insua.

I don't see how both Aurelio and Insua can stay and I would rather give Insua a chance. Also, finnan has to be leaving right? I mean if Degen is worth the plane ticket from Switzerland Finnan's days are surely numbered.

Aren't we in some kind of dire need for ca$h? I would think we would be in the business of selling anything we could get away with. I think Finnan and Aurelio could both depart and we would still be 2 strong across the back 4:
Arebloa     Carra     Agger    Dossena
Degen       SKrtel     Hyypia   Insua
Carra         Hobbs     San Jose   Arbeloa
Darby      Antwi        Huth         Threlfall

still a bit puzzled as to why Rafa took Robbie Threlfall on that Asia tour last summer.

on the same line of thinking I think we can "get away with" dropping one of Pennant or Yossi, and even though I realize Alonso would generate the most cash I would want to see what I could raise off of others first like Carson, Itandje and Voronin. I would even  sell Crouch before I would think about selling Xabi

Lets be honest this thing has gone on far enough for everyone to release that it is going to happen because it has gone way to far for Barry to go back to Villa.

It just a matter of time before this all gets sorted out. He will be a Liverpool player at the start of the season

Th mistake we made with Diao is we gave a contract to a player other clubs didnt want to buy. I assume that Insua has value and other clubs would be tempted to come in and take him, thus negating the risk. You´re right though, there is a risk involved and lets hope we learnt from the Diao fiasco.

What about that very expensive Chelsea player who was even dropped from the reserves, remember?

This situation is now just starting to show MO'N for the real gobshite that he is. He's been whoring his face all over the BBC for the past month, even publicly going on about the situation on live TV; this after accusing Rafa and the club of trying to unsettle Barry through the press.
I have just one question, did Rafa actually mention his desire to sign Barry through the press cause the first I heard of it was when MO'N started bad mouthing LFC. As far as I'm aware it was MO'N who went public with the whole thing first.

MO'N has seemingly backed himself into a corner now over this situation. He and Villa have basically burnt their bridges with their club captain now by disciplining him publicly. The trust between player and manager looks to have been broken and now there looks to be no way back for either side. If MO'N wants the best for AV he should take what is on offer cause Rafa ain't gonna offer anymore and then Barry is probably just gonna be left bench warming whilst his contract runs down.

so whats the problem?

I don't think O'Neill wants Carson anymore I guess, if he did then it would have been sorted out long time ago.

i'd never believe what you say  :D
