Must be something about £20m, I read that spudz may well ask £20m for Keane and this is all getting farcical. I wonder why we're even bothering with trying to sign Premiership based players >>>> Downing £15m, Bentley £15m, Berbatov £23m bid or £30m asking, Barry £18m-£20m, Keane £20m, Crouch £15m. I think spudz are looking the clever ones with Berbatov last season and maybe Modric will turn out as good this.

With Berbatov the fee is that much because he is good, with Barny, Downing, Crouch et al you have to conclude it is because they is English. Let's look for a Santa Cruz type bargain or shop abroad for quality, my main reservation about Keane besides the possible price is his age. Barny's no bargain considering his age, I'd rather pay that for someone at least a couple of years younger

Why is it farcical when Real Madrid are talking 80 million for Ronalvestite and Chelsea 75 million for Torres?

These might seem fanciful fees today but they show us exactly where transfer prices are going for the top players so you might say that in 2 years most first team and squad players will be in the region 15-20 million. Hence the big clubs get bigger and Everton get smaller.

Now if that hasnt caught Platini´s attention in the last 2 weeks then he really is daft.

Platini is really daft!

Major difference is villa are a poxy two bit club in the midlands, the graveyard of football, while Ronaldo and Torres play for the two biggest clubs in England. Torres and Ronaldo took football to a new level, Barry played well last season but not that well.

And comparisons of the spending patterns of CHELSEA, to whom money means nothing, and REAL MADRID, who often throw money at a player as part of their politics, are irrelevant. Neither of those two clubs has any real appreciation of the value of money, both simply want something and bid ridiculous sums until the get what they want or don't. Knock the mancs all you like but they rarely go to silly money for players, Ferdinand probably and arguably Veron, but the rest of their big buys have proved successes on par with their fees.

Besides, how can you possibly talk of Barny in the same context as Ronaldo and Torres?!?!?!? Would you swap Barny for either? No. You could offer three Barnys for Torres and anyone with any sense would turn it down.

The rest of what you say is true, the problem is the small clubs that get the oversized fees waste them. What did the bitters do with their Rooney money? What would villa do with the Barny money? But the real point I was making wasn't that fees are going up, that is pretty plain for all to see and comprehend, but that since it is so bleeding obvious from just the few linked rumours of this (close) season then why the ferk is Rafa even contemplating shopping in the most expensive shop on the planet - the Premier-SHOP?!?!?!?

We'll see more and more pinching of other clubs' kids, in the hope bigger clubs can get them before they come with overpriced tags on them and develop them themselves. But we all know from watching Liverpool that few youngsters make the grade and picking the cream of the crop at such an early age as clubs are gives no guarantee of producing the best players

Who's this Barny lad? ???

What we all called silly Chelsea and Real Madrid prices 3 years ago are todays common prices and whilst Villa are a poxy half-arsed club from the depressed parts of the Midlands, as long as clubs are prepared to pay big money for players they will pump up their asking prices as these are the only chances they get to make money.

Its written throughout footie history, Line-acre going to Barcelona, Shearer going to Newcastle, Ferdithug going to ManUre etc.. yesterday's unbelieveable prices are todays norm. Its inevitable.

Carrick 18 Million

And in saying that, how can you forsee that "barny" wont be a success on par with his fee ?

I didn't say he wouldn't be a success, like many I think we're paying way too much for him. Of course the fee isn't necessarily going to reflect the success that will ensue, Santa Cruz and others prove that much.

What we won't be getting is value for money OR guaranteed success.

Latest I hear is we've bid £15m but apparently some sh1trag suggests it is £17m (EDIT, I've heard, I don't buy it)

You can call him what you like, as will I. No need to go getting your knickers in a knot over it, certainly you think you're going to tell me what to do and you can fack off
