I have just one question, did Rafa actually mention his desire to sign Barry through the press cause the first I heard of it was when MO'N started bad mouthing LFC. As far as I'm aware it was MO'N who went public with the whole thing first.

MO'N has seemingly backed himself into a corner now over this situation. He and Villa have basically burnt their bridges with their club captain now by disciplining him publicly. The trust between player and manager looks to have been broken and now there looks to be no way back for either side. If MO'N wants the best for AV he should take what is on offer cause Rafa ain't gonna offer anymore and then Barry is probably just gonna be left bench warming whilst his contract runs down.

Thats what I've been trying to say, Rafa didn't go publically, it was MON who really did

so whats the problem?

I don't think O'Neill wants Carson anymore I guess, if he did then it would have been sorted out long time ago.

i'd never believe what you say  :D

I thought that meself.

I've always been under the impression that MO'N had taken a newspaper article as being gospel and has brought the story into public himself. He was either being a complete dumb@ss or was trying to manipulate Barry into pledging his future to AV or pressuring us to pay top dollar for him. To me it's now starting to look like it's backfiring on MO'N.

Yup agreed Lakes, just getting silly now, we are looking like mugs, unless of course Rafa has spoken with Barry promising a move, hence why Barry has come out into the press and made the statements he has.

Will feel sorry for Gazza Bazza if this does fall through for him. (but not for me I prefer the two footed alonso to his left)

I don't see the good in this unless Barry becomes a legendary player. We're working this hard to sign some middle table captain and every bid is being rejected? It makes us look like a weaker club.

Barny fined as Villa snub new bid

Aston Villa have rejected Liverpool's latest bid for Gareth Barry, who has been disciplined and ordered not to report for pre-season training.

Liverpool's new bid is about £15m, but Villa say that "still falls short of our valuation and has been rejected".

Villa captain Barry, 27, has been punished for giving an unauthorised interview to a newspaper in which he criticised boss Martin O'Neill.

O'Neill will let Barry join Liverpool - but only when his asking price is met.

Liverpool hope to finally resolve a protracted and increasingly acrimonious saga, but O'Neill is furious at how the Anfield club's interest in Barry became public.

O'Neill has been firm in his stance on the proposed move, saying: "If Liverpool meet our valuation, he will have his express wish to leave Villa Park granted."

In the interview that led to his punishment, Barry criticised Villa for not trying hard enough to keep him - even though O'Neill insists they want him to stay.

The player signalled his intention to move when he complained on Sunday about Villa's lack of urgency in speaking to him.

"There's no going back, it's time for me to move on," he said.

"I'm desperate to play Champions League football and that's why I have to leave Villa.

"Villa kept saying they wanted me to stay but I have not heard from the manager for weeks.

"It's seven weeks now since the season finished but while the gaffer's found time to be a pundit at Euro 2008, he hasn't found the time to speak to me.

"Have Villa offered me anything to try to persuade me my future is at Villa Park, not Anfield? Not a thing."

But O'Neill has hit back to vehemently deny Barry's claim.

"The chairman and I were surprised at Gareth's comments," he said.

"Contrary to what he said, we desperately wanted to keep him - and he knows that."

Barry captained England for the first time and scored his first international goal during the recent friendly against Trinidad and Tobago.

Liverpool are keen to partner Barry in midfield with his England colleague Steven Gerrard.

Meanwhile, Argentinian left-back Emiliano Insua has signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool.

The 19-year-old Argentina Under-20 international has made five first team appearances for the club - featuring in the final three Premier League matches of last season.

Insua initially joined Liverpool on loan from Boca Juniors in January 2007 but signed a permanent contract last summer.

How many years does Barny have left on his contract? When can he buy it out? Even if he's on £100k a year, which I doubt he is, that's only £5.2m a year and 3 x £5.2m isn't £18m so if we can do it that way we should look into it as it would only be more expensive if he has four years left and I get the feeling you can only do it in the last two or one. I suggest that may be the best way forward for football, abandon transfer fees and just make teams buy out contracts

there was another bid. confirmed on villa website this morning:

"The report in todays  [3 July] paper of £17m offer for Gareth Barry is inaccurate.

The club have received a renewed offer from Liverpool for the player but that still falls well short of Aston Villa's valuation and has subsequently been rejected"

If you've heard all they've got to say,
You looked but turned away
Walk away, just walk away,
If you've said all you got to say,
Now the words just slip away
Just walk away

Just walk away,

Just walk away, walk away, walk away,
That's what they say, what they say, what they say,
You gotta walk away

If you've played all the games they've played,
You played them yesterday,
Just walk away, walk away
If you've been , where they wanna go, seen all they've got to show,

And now you must believe me, you never lose your dream,
So now you must believe me, we never lose our dreams

If you've proved all there is to prove, you got nothing left to use,
Just walk away, walk away,
If you've done, all there is to do, ain't nothing left for you,
Just walk away…………

Did you actually watch Inusa play the last couple of games at the end of last season? The lad played better better and showed more potential than any of our other left-backs did all season. From where I was sitting he looked quick, had a decent touch, liked a tackle, liked to get forward and was a tough little bugger for a small lad. That's why he's been given a new contract.
