Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

lets be fair to yossi, before Tevez started to steal the headlines he was the player that was dragging west ham through their games, if anything he was a bigger contributer to west ham remaining up, its just the tevez was in the media spotlight when it happened. HE ran the show against us in the FA cup final the year before. I'd say he is a good player, not necessarily a permanant fixture in the squad but a good garcia replacement none the less.

However if buying youssi sacrifices the chances of getting in someone like quaresma et al then i'd rather we didnt. IF we can pick him up for £5 million maximum then fair do but I am hopeful that this will mean we will get babel and another winger in...

To be fair if it all panned out that way i reckon we could be happy with our close season....

Currently we have picked up Torres and Lucas, prospectively by the close of the transfer window our signings could be Torres, Lucas, Babel, Quaresma, Benayoun. Not too shabby to be fair, still conjecture but its nice to have the prospect of that as opposed to Le tallac, diouf and cheyrou

Babel to Liverpool would be a massive boost. He is a young, incredibly fast and a techically strong player.

He would give Benitez an extra option in attack.

yeah i like the look of him... looks similar to henry on the youtube videos... but is he a prolific scorer? plus we can play him as left sided forward in a 4-3-3 formation...

Millwall have confirmed that they have 'reluctantly' agreed to sell David Amoo to Liverpool.

The striker will seal his move to Anfield after the clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £50,000.

'We're very disappointed to be losing David because we believe he had the potential to become a first team player here and he would have turned professional with us on his 17th birthday,' Willie Donachie told millwallfc.co.uk.

"It is always a gamble for a young player to move to a big club at such a young age, but David's parents made it clear that the family felt it was the right move for him. "

Liverpool's Head of Recruitment Malcolm Elias told Liverpool's official site: "We are delighted to have completed the capture of David.

"He's an exciting young talent with fantastic physical prowess. He's a natural athlete who possesses great pace and has represented London as a sprinter at the English Schools National Track and Field Championships."

The club did not comment on the reported offer for another academy product, Preston Edwards

Hicks reveals more in interview Written by Matt Ladson on July 11th, 2007

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks was interviewed on Sky Sports News on Wednesday afternoon and revealed some details on the new stadium and hinted there will be another signing to follow after the arrivals of Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel are finalised.

Hicks told how it had been an eventful and succesful first summer in charge of the club and how he and George Gillett had helped carry out Rafa Benitez’s plan by signing the “core players” to long term contracts, then improving the squad to add depth and quality for the “grueling 10 month season”.

When asked should we expect any more after Benayoun and Babel are confirmed he replied “I wouldn’t rule out one more” with a little laugh when asked in which position that would be! “I know the team’s going to be a better team,” he explained. “Part of the plan that Rafa explained to George and me was to have more depth, it’s a long season - particularly in the Premiership.”

Hicks then told how the club had finalised plans for the new stadium and they will be presented to the city council on July 25th, “I think they will become public at that point,” he said. “People will be very excited when they see them.”

When asked if the new stadium will be bigger than first planned (61,000) he replied “It has to initially be the same size as has been approved but we are building the stadium in a way that it can be expanded, so as we get approval we add to the seating. Eventually we plan to have it quite a bit larger than we first planned.”

When prompted for a figure he said “mid to high seventies potentially”.

He told how he believes HKS are the best architects in the world and that the design is very unique and will be recognisable anywhere in the world, very contempary but some classic English tradition to it.

He also added that they have been working to hire a commercial director “to build up all our commercial activites” and that will be announced in the next week or so.

The club today announced plans for a brand new TV channel beginning in September which will air as part of the regular Setanta Sports package and be the first non-subscription based club specific channel in the UK. More details here.
New signing Fernando Torres took part in his first training session for the club on Wednesday, sporting the number 9 on his top he took part despite claims he wouldn’t be able to make it with an ankle injury he was carrying.

Babel Not the Only Dutchman coming to Anfield as Matic flies in
It looks as if there's no end to Liverpool's spending spree on young talent with Dutchamn Marco Matic in talks with the club.

In an article complaining about English clubs picking off players before they sign professional contracts, AD mention that AZ Alkmaar's Marco Matic is in talks with Liverpool even tough his current club seems to be unaware of this.

According to AZ's technical director, "Marco Matic is still with us but he has been to the United Kingdom. I do not know any details."

"I wonder whether a club like Liverpool considers if a player is going to make it. If someone is sixteen years old, I have to ask myself whether he or another one is going to make it."
According to the reports, Matic stands to earn £30,000 a year if he joins Liverpool whilst in Holland he would still be on a minimum wage contract.

Earlier this year, Liverpool signed Jordy Brouwer from Ajax on a similar deal.

I love what Rafa is doing here. Bringing in the BIG players like Torres and Babel but at the same time he is snapping up (many un-noticed) some of europe's top youngsters. Great work.

I sincerely hope that this 'other/additional' signing is Quaresma! Then I'd be VERY happy with the summer's activities. :)

FORMER Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier may be in line for the Socceroos coaching job again after knocking back a major job offer in Europe.

The ex-France coach has rejected an offer from Ukraine giants Dynamo Kiev, who are set to play in next season's European Champions League.

Houllier quit as manager of French club Lyon two months ago after guiding them to a second league championship, saying he needed to take a break from football.

But Houllier is a friend of Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy, and the decision to reject Kiev has revived speculation he may finally be in a position to take on a job he has been perennially linked to over the past three years.

"I will not move over there,'' he told French newspaper L'Equipe of the Dynamo Kiev offer.

"I am going to wait one or two months before deciding what I am going to do, but you will not find me in Kiev.''

The timeframe Houllier mentions and his wish for a break could tie in perfectly with the end of the Socceroos' Asian Cup campaign and the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, which aren't expected to start until mid-2008.

Current Socceroos coach Graham Arnold's tenure finishes after the Asian Cup and it is generally accepted he would have to win the tournament to have any hope of keeping the job towards 2010.

The Socceroos started their Asian Cup campaign sluggishly, leading to criticism of Arnold and the team in Australia.

FFA officials have refused to comment on the coaching position until after the Asian Cup, but if the long-time flirtation between Houllier and the Socceroos is ever to be consummated, it would have to be now.

Houllier, first linked with the Australian job in 2004 when Frank Farina was in charge, was also floated as a candidate ahead of Guus Hiddink's appointment.

After last year's World Cup, any plans for him to take on the Socceroos job following Hiddink's departure were scuttled by the remaining year on his Lyon contract, which he has now seen out.

As well as Kiev, Houllier was linked with the job as French Football Federation technical director and the vacancy at English club Manchester City, filled last week by Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Two other coaches regularly mentioned as possible Socceroos bosses - Dutchmen Dick Advocaat and Leo Beenhakker - both have jobs.

Advocaat is coaching Russian league leaders Zenit St Petersburg while Beenhakker is manager of Poland.

But former Glasgow Rangers boss Advocaat could still be a candidate, telling Russian media last week: "I have a contract with Zenit till the end of the year. Then I'll decide where to go next.''

I have waited years to see a competitive socceroos team and don't want this dick ruining things. At least he can't buy :censored: players for the national team.

I know nothing about this Michael Johnson kid but with rafa on 'build for the future' mode as well as 'sign a superstar' mode I would be happy to see him join LFC. I hope he's not another central midfielder though ???
