I think Riise is a damn good left back, one of the best in Europe although he never gets recognised for it, they always say he's not the best at defending, which is a load of rubbish.

However if we are looking for another left back why not go for Leighton Baines, an up and coming ENGLISH under 21 International, and he's a Scouser and boyhood Liverpool fan. Ideal I would have thought

I'd have Baines over Heinze to be honest, he young and scouse where Heinze is about 29 now, I think if we offered £4m for Baines we'd get him.

I think you'd be looking at £5m+ for Baines in all honesty as Wigan are desperate to keep him. They are rumoured to be preparing a new contract offer for him and with a number of other teams being linked with him I think if Wigan listened to offers for him there would be a long queue of clubs.

You could always test the water  :;):

I agree though that we'd be looking more towards £7m for him, bracking player and worth it.

There will be three signings for Everton all going to be unveiled next week, Kieran Richardson, Gabor Kirahly and the most suprising Juan Roman Riquelme. The Riquelme deal was finalised four weeks ago and upon the player's request will not be made public until after the completion of the Copa America the fee is believed to be in the region of £9m and I found this out through a mate that is a premier league player.

just copied this of ssn rumour site, can't stop laughing at the thought of riquelmes face if he arrives at stanly park and they turn off for goodison.  a puzzled look on his face asking his translator " is that not liverpool over there "  no the translator replies you've signed for a team in liverpool called everton"

riqelme " who"

translator "the one's with the free sweets"

riqelme "turn the fecking car around" :D  :D

The agent of Roma wideman Mancini claims Liverpool have made contact regarding a move for the Brazilian star.

Gilmar Veloz told Italian radio that Reds boss Rafa Benitez has enquired about the possibility of bringing Mancini to Anfield, but he insists Liverpool must negotiate with Roma first.

Mancini caught the eye during last season's Champions League campaign, scoring a quite sensational goal to see the Italian giants past French champions Lyon.

However, Veloz revealed he is still waiting on a new contract offer from Roma, prompting the 26-year-old to consider his future.

"There has been interest from Liverpool for Mancini," Veloz told Radio Centro Suono Sport.

"I have spoken with Benitez and but I have answered that they must deal with Roma.

"If the Giallorossi find an agreement with the English club, we would need to meet to discuss the player's future.

"I still do not know the offer of Roma."

Liverpool have made their intentions clear in the transfer market this summer, bolstering their attacking options with the captures of Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Andriy Vorinin and Ryan Babel.

Benitez has always stated his desire to bring in two wide players though, and with Babel the only recognized touchline-hugger in the quartet, the Anfield coffers could be called into action one last time to secure Mancini's services.

Liverpool may be forced to step up their search for a new defender after Rafa Benitez confirmed Fabio Aurelio will miss the start of the season.

The Reds have been linked heavily with a move for Manchester United's Gabriel Heinze during the close season, but any deal will not be done until the climax of the Copa America Final on Sunday.

Benitez may well be waiting at the airport for the Argentinian after it was revealed Aurelio will not start training for another month, following cruciate ligament damage picked up against PSV last season.

The Brazilian's absence leaves John Arne Riise as the only established natural left-sided cover, although Alvaro Arbeloa could be used as a makeshift option.

Benitez told The Liverpool Echo: "Fabio isn't fit yet. It could be another month before he is recovered, but we knew it would be a long time when he suffered the injury.

"He is improving, but it's not easy when you have this kind of injury."

Meanwhile, it appears Liverpool's move for Bulgarian Under-21 goalkeeper Nikolay Mikhailov could hit the rocks due to work permit restrictions.

However, the Reds are expected to experience contrasting fortunes with Brazilian capture Lucas Leiva, with Benitez confirming a work permit should be secured within the next seven days.

Bad news about Fabio :( , Heinze deal has always sounded unlikely to me, maybe not as unlikely as I thought.

I very much doubt that we are in for Mancini now. If we've supposedly only got one transfer left of the summer, I believe the rumours about a new defender to be more accurate. We could use some backup in the centre there, and isn't Heinze capable of playing both in the centre and on the left? Maybe not such an unlikely deal after all, even though I must admit, that I've doubted it very much all along. Regarding Mancini I would definitely like him at the club, but as I've stated, it seems very doubtful. Couldn't it be, that Mancini's agent is just using our (former?) interest in his client to put pressure on Roma in the contract negotiations, as the article clearly states, that he is waiting for a new (and improved) contract offer ???

We need this translating but basically they are offering 40million euros for Xabi if they cant get Kaka.
