Naming rights of the new stadium

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Like the man said, if selling naming rights enables us to be in the market for seriously top players, be happy for it to be the Canestan Combi stadium.

At the moment such deals are in their infancy, but 10 years down the line it'll be the rule as opposed to the exception.

My main concern is what happens to the ticket prices now that Hicks and Gillett are in charge. In this day and age it's unlikely, but for me the surest way of getting fans onside would be to publicly commit to keeping ticket prices affordable. Any fan that gets their ear should really hammer home that message.

What about a fans campaign to either:
a) Petition the board NOT to sell the naming rights, or...
b) Set up a group with the aim of buying the naming rights from the club, if they insist on this - with the stated intention of 'New Anfield' as the name.

The media coverage would be significantly greater than just a petition, and would show that the fans were extremely committed to the idea.  In the end we probably would not have to buy the naming rights at all - can you imagine if a board sold the naming rights to their own fans because the fans were unhappy with the idea?  Or if they didn't sell to the fans and to some multi-national company instead?  Terrible publicity.

Just a thought.

There was a thread a while back about the name for the stands in the new ground - I meant to post but didn't.  Just as a minor point these were my thoughts.

New Anfield

Behind Goal 1:  The Kop
Behind Goal 2:  Memorial Stand
Other stand 1:  Shankly Stand
Other stand 2:  Dagliesh Stand OR if the stadium is not called New Anfield the Anfield Stand.  As long as the Kop stays behind a goal the stands can be rejigged to put this near the site of Anfield if needs be.  OR sell the naming rights to this stand at 5/10 year intervals to raise the cash.

I'd also put the away fans next to the Kop, every game I've been to LFC home or away, or any other game for that matter - the atmosphere is almost always better when the away fans and the home fanatics are close to each other.  European Games are obviously an exception to this at Anfield - but for the most part I've found it to be true.

I wouldn't want any campaign or petition.

This is something the fans will simply have to accept.

It's not correcting some injustice or something. It's progress.

We either move with it, or get left behind.

The thing is - it will be a new stadium.

I'm sure it won't kill us to have a stadium called The "Adidas Arena" for 5 years, then revert to "New Anfield".

Let's be honest - if £100m comes in, I'd sell the name for a few years. The fans will call it what they want anyway.

What's in a name, when it's a new construction?

In conversation I already use "Stanley Park" as the name anyway.

I call Arsenal's place "Ashburton Grove".

It's not a big deal.

TBH i've already accepted there will be a name change to the stadium and i'm hoping the we will keep our atmosphere, the only problem i have is whether the ticket prices will rise.. which they likely will, tickets are already really pricey in this league compared to the likes of la liga.. anyone got any ideas on how much ticket prices might increase to?

ticket prices will go up by around £10 i think and the name of the stadium will be fitting around adidas i hope not something stupid. also i hope they sort out the parking arrangements. my heart is praying for 'the new anfield' for the name with two massive multi story carparks 10 pubs and a few chippers! but in the end as long as i get to see the reds and theres not a stupid name i'm allright

With the amount of money available for naming rights we effectively sold the Anfield name when the Americans took over the club.

The new owners are not going to see a serious amount of cash flushed away over a name. We have to accept the inevitable.

With the contacts these people have we could bag ourselves a fortune with the right sponsor. Whilst the name Anfield will play some part within the new arena the bottom line is a sponsor will not have it wedged in with their brand whilst forking out millions.

Liverpool are moving on at last after years of struggling to come to terms with the new way football operates at the highest level. With this now sorted we can have high hopes for the years ahead.

I think we can all safely say for sure that the new ground will defintely be "branded" by a sponsorship deal much like "The Emirates Stadium". The whole process of selling the naming rights to a stadium is very big business in America and as always us Brits are slow at catching up. The amount of money involved in "naming" a stadium means its something that our football club and its new owners will definetly have to exploit to the full potential.

In an ideal world, Stanley Park would be called "New Anfield", however I cannot see this ever being the case. Mr Parry was in all the newspapers today talking about the naming rights to the new ground and he has said the club will look into it as its very profitable - which means its a given, however a bit of a nicer quote from him is that the club will try to incorporate the "Anfield" name into the new name somehow. For example - The 7-up Anfield Stadium!  :D #

I know its may seem like we are losing out to corporations and selling our club short. The traditionalists of our club might even try to stage some sort of mock protest at our owners for selling the clubs heritage.

However I will not be going down this road. Anfield holds many wonderful memories for me. Its an institution, sacred ground were I watched the red men play and win. However in todays football, its an absolute necessity if we are to compete at the very top level. I liked Mr Gillette's thinking about how he said, if its worth one GREAT player to us every year, its worth doing and I fully agree with him.

Whats in a name anyway? The "THIS IS ANFIELD" sign was put there famously and Mr Shankly said - "Its to remind the lads who there playing for and to remind the opposition who there playing against". The name of the stadium does not matter, its whats inside that counts. The Fans. The Players. And the Football. Anfield became famous because of these.. I hope the new stadium carries on the great traditions set by us and the club and then the "7up Anfield Stadium" will be known for what matters.

And not a silly name.
