Gerrard and selction - Proving some people right

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby 112-1077774096 » Sat Dec 16, 2006 3:41 pm

some posters on here were criticised for having the nerve to tell the truth about the reds at the start of the season.

we said "play a settled team" and play "gerrard in the centre".

others criticsed us and came out with the oh so well though out "in rafa we trust" argument.

well guys rafa has done what some posters on here were suggesting, he has played a settled side for the last few weeks, and also played one of the best central midfielders in the world in central midfield, and lo and behold, we are winning and winning well and gerrard is dominating games.

it feels so good to be proved right

So why weren't any problems last year when he spent the entire season on the right?

I prefer Gerrard in the middle, mate.

But when Momo is fit, we need to play Xabi and Momo in the middle. They bring so much to the team. I would prefer Gerrard in the middle but he does a great job on the right wing.

Me personally, would play 4-5-1, but thats me.

Anyways were winning so theres no point in arguing, you can point to facts, I can point to facts.

Were winning, and Gerrards flying :)

come on guys, are you suggesting its just coincidence that we have scored 11 goals in our last three games, or are you saying its only because we have played against poor teams?

or maybe its because we have played a settled team with gerrard in his best position

you know i am right guys.

i know what you are saying mate, but sissoko in the middle and gerrard on the right, we were not doing the business this season.

now gerrard is back in the centre we are winning. i think sissoko will have to sit on the bench mate when hes fit.

it just doesnt make any sense to me playing gerrard on the right, thats not what he does and that has been shown the last few games

Big question though Peewee is what do we do when Momo is back?

1st leg against Barca I'd defo play SG on the right to cover Goofy

Matt McQueen - Liverpool 1892-1928.
Only professional to - play in goal (41 appearances), Defence, Midfield, Striker, and later be Director and then to be Manager (winning a Championship) - at one club

hard question, but heres an idea, why not let barca worry about gerrard in the centre.

why should we nullify our own best player and stop him doing what he does best to nullify the big toothed one.

gerrard is a special player, just let him go and do what hes good at. if we are going to have a chance against barca we need hi, pulling the strings in the centre and making those runs that he excells at

You keep mentioning facts, the facts are that Gerrard is playing better now, yes.  But if he was moved to the right now i think he would be as just as good as he was last season.  It wasnt the posiiton he was playing it was the FACT that he had a few problems off the field to deal with.  Now there in the past and you can see hes playing better.  Add to the fact that players around him, more so Xabi Alonso has also started to play to the high standards that he has set him self to.  There are a number off facts to consider but the fact really is that when Mommo comes back Gerrrard will be on the right again, even if there are alot off people who dont agree with it.  FACT.
