Benitez to sell gerrard - Gerrard and alonso will not work

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

thats just funny. alonso and gerrard are th best pairing in midfield in the premiership. when they are both firing we are gonna be deadly i think.

we really need to sort out the defence but the attacking front is starting to look pretty sweet

i think the only reason we wont sell stevie g is coz of alonso and stevie can see what we can possibly accomplish here

The Sunday People must be short of headlines so they have created a good one to increase sales on Merseyside :

GERRARD'S EXIT MAYBE REAL NOW Oct 17 2004
By Alan Nixon

STEVEN GERRARD is on his way out of Liverpool - and the skipper could even be sold in the next transfer window.

England ace Gerrard committed himself to the Kop last summer when Chelsea were willing to pay £30million for him, but all is not well with Gerrard and the Anfield club.

Gerrard is out injured but he has told pals that he wonders what the future holds for him under Rafa Benitez and with the signing of Xabi Alonso.

The SP understands that Gerrard feels the Spanish coach may not be convinced about him as a key player and could be prepared to cash in on him. Benitez has bought Alonso to run his midfield and the partnership with Gerrard has hardly had a chance to work, but it is a double act that looks unlikely to be a success.

Gerrard was squeezed out wide on Alonso's debut and, when they played in the middle, the England star was under orders to play a different way.

The Alonso signing was set up at a time when Gerrard seemed sure to move. His U-turn led to the current dilemma. Liverpool may be willing to sell Gerrard to give Benitez money for players - and the big test will come when a concrete offer arrives.

Anfield insiders revealed that Benitez wants to buy two or three more players, with his spies ordered to find the best of British at the moment, but there is not much money left. The Kop would find it hard to refuse a big bid for Gerrard in January, although both Chelsea and Real would prefer an end-of-season transfer. Gerrard's agents SFX are well connected in Madrid after taking the three English 'amigos' to Real - David Beckham, Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate.

The gossip will intensify, the closer we get to the January window. Let's hope ''Rooney starts cracking'' up to give the papers something else to talk about.

why would we sell our best player and club captain.  Paper talk....  Alonso and Gerrard haven't really played together very much yet, there is so much potential there
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Unreal.

To say it won't work is nonsense.

They are both at a similar level of ability and both have VERY differrent qualities. That could become one of the best central midfield pairings of all time. Gerrard's power and drive, Alonso's brain and technique...

Sounds juicy to me.

a more appropriate version of the story....

Liverpool ace tipped for multi-million pound Anfield exit

It seems that the British media just won't give up suggesting that Steven Gerrard will be on his way out of the club in 2005.

Reports today claim that the Liverpool skipper has "told pals that he wonders what the future holds for him under Rafael Benitez and with the signing of Xabi Alonso". It is also claimed that Gerrard feel the manager does not see him as a key player and that he could be prepared to cash in on him. Yeh right, what idiot wouldn't class him as a key player?!

Anyway, Real Madrid are again mentioned, so too are Chelsea. And although there are suggestions that he could be sold in January, the report by Alan Nixon suggests both clubs would prefer to deal at the end of the season.

Football is a funny old game and where money is involved, anything can happen. We never say never because we are realists but this particular report really does sound a load of rubbish. What club would want to wait until the summer to buy him if they could in January?!

The Gerrard speculation cooled off when he injured himself but now he's getting closer to a return, it would appear that we had better brace ourself for more of it.

I would be so gutted if Stevie leaves, especially for Chelsea as not only is he a world class player but he is a true red :(

Fingers crossed this is only paper talk.
