What's wrong with being happy about signing a player who has great ability? Lucas is going to be a Liverpool player either this season or next and I'm happy.

I don't want Alves because he cannot defend. He's a wingback and if Rafa is going to deploy a formation and tactics which support wing backs, then I'd welcome Alves for £6million tops.

As we need a defender Lucas is a great player to have and is another option. He can play anywhere in defence and will give Finnan more pressure to do well, it's a good signing for Neill and us.

Really can't see what he'll bring to our club, apart from a bad disiplinary record.

Rafa.B doesn't do panic buys. probably as someone else mentioned earlier, that this is probably just a smoke screen for Alves or the like now that we have some money, from the sales that Rafa.B has made.

Operating in the bottom end of the market isnt a plus.  I know its not all about big names but a club the size of liverpool should be competing for the top talent.

Well, at least, if we sign him, he can't cripple any of our players.

But then again, what about those five-a-side matches in training???

He'll pose no more of a threat to Finnan's place as KrapKamp does. I'd much rather have a few bob for Lucas Niell who can play across the back.

What planet are you posting from ?

I cant believe the shi'te you are coming off with ffs!
You would happily pay £4.5m for Lucas Neil...........but you dont want Alves fullstop............im amazed!

I can only imagine that Kromkamp is defo off to PSV and Raffa is looking for a quick fix for cover for Finnan as we dont really have anyone else. Also the transfer deadline is looming. All Lucas Neil will ever be if he comes is cover and the only reason we are signing him is because he is rare in the sense he is versatile.Dont get excited about mediocre players mate!

To hear the way you are talking and getting excited you'd think we were getting Ronaldhinio!! :D

what are you talking about ?!
Alves isnt all that great ! he's a verygood wingback ! a good RB, but havnt seen him play as a right winger !
The way i see things, if we sign Alves, we end up dropping either Finnan or Sissoko from our starting 11 ! I think finnan is a better defender than Alves will ever be, maybe not as good going forwrd, but its what made us look so solid defensively last season and i'd love to stick to our back4 setup .
As for Alves playing in the RW role, i cant see why everyones so excited about it ! he has not played in that position in Sevilla and his coming here to play in a position he doesnt play for 12mill is just out of this world ridiculous if you ask me !
He's a very good player and i rate him highly , just not 12 mill, and not to replace Finnan or Sissoko.
Back to L.Neil, i think he's a mediocre player too, and if Kromkamp is not sold to PSV or whoever i would not want Neil in our shirt anytime soon. 4.5 mill is waaay too much for someone like Neil given that it's his last year in contract and something amongst the lines of 2mill makes more sense....again, if kromkamp doesnt leave...dont want us to go get him !

aaaand...we can always train paletta to become a RB, eh ?! he seems to have what it takes and would make a good RB if he gets a chance imo ! just for cover until we can get Neil for free, or buy Alves at low price when Sevilla figure out they were way outta line by asking for 12 mill, or better options come up....etc

Like we did when we signed Cisse? Maybe we can't afford to compete for the "top talents", has that thought ever crossed your mind? Who says Lucas isn't a top player? It's all about opinions after all is it not? Rafa seems to agree with me on this, so if a manager like Rafa agrees with me, then I'm correct.  :D

We signed Cisse from Auxerre, I'd hardly call that top end business !

I'm a real sceptic when it comes to Neill but I'm gonna give Rafa the benefit of the doubt, I reckon he's earned it..... Plus he knows a bit more than we all do about the game!
