I really hope we don't sign Alves. One outstanding performance in the UEFA Cup making him worth £12million is a joke, he's not a very good defender either. He'll pose no more of a threat to Finnan's place as KrapKamp does. I'd much rather have a few bob for Lucas Niell who can play across the back.

ciggy... that would be a fairytail story but i think we will have to wait till january/or the summer for alves

still think neil will come to anfield- 3 million should do it...

Its not just one outstanding performance in the UEFA cup though, maybe it is if thats the only time youve bothered to watch him..

Quite funny the way everyone has started having a go at kromkamp at every give opportunity now because of a couple of poor performances. Thought we are supposed to support our players

Yeah i dont watch spanish football do i.. forgot about that, all them matches i watch on sky are all from the czech league arent they..

Alves is a rightback... us signing him to play him as a rightwing is def. a risk ! he's not worth 12mill ! is overrated if you ask me, and finnan is a better defender by all means !
I'v seen alot of him ! was very impressed with Sevilla in the UEFA cup last season, not as impressed in their league games (or atleast the ones i watched) ! he's a hard worker, that much i give him , he has some skills, but his biggest asset is his pace. He MIGHT make a good winger, but i havnt seen enough of him to be sure he'd make a 12mill winger !
For the simple fact of Rafa wanting Alves, everyone suddenly seems to think he's a great winger and is one to turn the club around.....he aint !
He'd make a good buy if we could get him for 6 or 7 mill, no more ! would be a replacement for finnan because he's an overall better RB than finnan is ! but i wouldnt like to see that ! finnan is a great defender and would like to see him stay in our first team for now .

Alves IS as good as he was in the UEFA cup final. He proved it again last friday against Barca in the Super cup and thats against top quality opposition and not some glory wannabe's from teeside who shat themselves in their biggest ever game.

His defensive qualities aren't the best but he's yer typical brazilian defender. I'd love to think that we may just sneek a last minute move for him seeing as how Blackburn have now rejected our bid for Neill.

P.S. This is based on watching shit loads of la liga on sky like GOAT. :nod

Fu.ck sake, Lucas Neill??

He's a solid defender but nothing more. I like his competitive attitude, in fact that's his main strength, not a weakness. It's the technical side of his game and his positioning I'm not convinced by.

2 million for an average-decent premiership player going into the last year of their contract was a good offer for Blackburn imo. I can't see Benitez upping that much more, and I don't know where this to.sser Oasis has plucked 4.5 million from, but that is far more than Lucas Neill is worth, even without him going into the last year of his deal.

Still can't believe how quick people are to write off Kromkamp, he's only been here about 5 minutes FFS. One bad game against Sheff Utd doesn't mean he's shi.te, plus he's hardly ever had a start in his favoured position of right back - instead he was usually thrown on late in games at right mid to shore things up.

I can only imagine he's homesick, can't settle and wants to leave, otherwise I can't see the sense in bidding for another right back. Also if Kromkamp is leaving we're leaving it a bit late to offload him during this window aren't we?

Looks like Jan Kromkamp is heading back to Holland to PSV Eindhoven...........maybe this is why we're looking at Lucas Neil!

You would happily pay £4.5m for Lucas Neil...........but you dont want Alves fullstop............im amazed!

I can only imagine that Kromkamp is defo off to PSV and Raffa is looking for a quick fix for cover for Finnan as we dont really have anyone else.Also the transfer deadline is looming.All Lucas Neil will ever be if he comes is cover and the only reason we are signing him is because he is rare in the sense he is versatile.Dont get excited about mediocre players mate!
