Miroslav Klose has shown improvements in the past World Cup as Klinsmann had put him through some "homework" to use his feet more and to develop his left feet (this story came up during the 2006 World Cup) and he scored 4 goals with his feet and only 1 with his head, compared to all goals with his head at the 2002 World Cup.

that won't happen this summer. klose has agreed a deal in principle that he will play for werder bremen for one more season and will then be allowed to go next summer.

Klose is a bit old now. He doesn't seem to score many good goals, or goals outside the box, just a typical pocher.
Okay he would score some goals, but for the Premiership, hmmm I don't know if he would cut it.
I don't see him going to England anyway, plus I'd rather have Kuyt or Ashton!

Kloser only turned 28 in June. My only reservation about Kloser is that he is a striker converted from a midfield player which always worries me, even though I know Geoff Hurst was one also.

Seeing that Kuyt seems to be playing the dirty game as much as his team Feyenoord, I'm not sure that Liverpool should even try to sign him any longer: "Newcastle is my first choice". It's all hot air of course but sticks in the throat all the same.

I'd rather see Pongolle be given a fair crack of the whip!

i dont know why that would worry you.... afterall he scored 30 goals in 38 starts last season and was absolutely brilliant in the german league ! For Germany in the worldcup he was great too! was recently awarded German Footballer of the year..
I think he'd make a massive impact if he signs for liverpool but i really cant see it happening.. he turned 28 and is at the peak of his career...Real Madrid and some other top European clubs were interested in him but WerderBremen held on to him... dont think they'll be accepting anything less than what he is really worth !
His heading is superb and he has been working on his footwork since he joined Bremen and seems to be one of the best strikers in the world today... he's one who can net 20+ goals for us ! Now that we have two good, fast wingers in Gonzales and Pennant we can make the most of our crossing if we sign a striker who's great in the air... Klose is ! Kuyt i havent seen much of but from what i'v seen, not only the world cup, he seems like one we'll need to nurture for a coupla years before getting the most of him . Not so with Klose, not so with Trezeguet!

totally disagree ! Klose has taken some brilliant goals in the last season and scored another brilliant one in the league yesterday ! he always looks great when playing in the WerderBremen shirt, by far the most valuable player in the German League now that :censored: is out ! He's not old as you say, only turned 28 a month or so ago ! He scores alot of goals from headers that look like simple tap ins as you have went on to say but....give him credit for positioning, finishing, anticipation...etc
He's a great player no doubt about it... can take a good shot from outside the box... has great vision and when paired with a player like bellamy he can give his best... Just see how good he was with Germany when he was played alongside Podolski who plays a game similar to Bellamy's, except is a little slower and more technical....more like fowler when he plays a little behind the striker ! im not making much sense i know but.....i'v seen alot of Klose in the past couple of years and was really excited to learn that we were linked to him...
At the moment, Klose and even Trezeguet look -to me- as better prospects than is Kuyt. Ashton is a no if you ask me and i think we should give him one more season in the prem. before getting all excited about him ! Martins is also a no, simply not what we need in a striker + is not prolific and doesnt have much to his game besides his pace.

Another striker that has come to mind since my earlier post would be Klose but apart from noticing hes scored 25 goals this season and watching him scoring quite a few in last world cup I havent seen anything of him. Iwould imagine he would be reasonably priced.

yeaa.....he would make a great buy imo.... quality player....
too bad i cant see it happening though....the german league already started and WerderBremen are looking like strong contenders for the title this year, cant see them letting go any of their players now that the season is underway. too bad though, had we pushed for him a couple of weeks ago or so, WerederBremen would have considered our offer especially if we had offered Sinama and extra cash for him ! i might be wrong on this one, but wasnt some german club interested in Sinama some time ago ?! he'd make an impact in the german league with his pace and his dribbling ability !

The way things stand I can't see us getting any new striker, there seems to be no options. Also, Why the hell are Newcastle getting closer to singing players such as Kuyt and Martins to us, a bigger club. Strange.

Chris Bascombe,today's Liverpool Echo

Rafa Benitez was back at his desk at Melwood today hoping to conclude the £10m switch of Dirk Kuyt.

The Dutch international is now understood to be very close to concluding one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer.

IS he really all that good? To be honest, I've not seen much of him as I don't watch the Dutch league.... and he did'nt really shine in the WC.....

Plus I've got this thing bout dutch players...... they seem a right bunch of w@nkers and cheats to me.... I mean look at Robben, Horseface, van Persie, the De boer brothers..... The fall down if you so much as look at them..... then you have Stam and the Kahlilroudze fella.... too busy chopping down players instead of playing the game.....

The only ones I've ever really rated were Bergkamp, Van Basten and Gullit who I thought were brilliant....

Hope that If we do end up getting Kuyt that he falls into the latter category and not the former....

We need a poacher, not a Milan Baros who runs around like a headless chicken for 90 mins and can't score. I'd much rather have another Owen tbh.

Ashton won't be sold anytime soon and West Ham seem to be heading in the right direction, so I can't see him coming to Anfield anytime soon.

Kuyt seems to perfer Newcastle, so he can go there for all I care.

money

Unfortunately Liverpool's treatment of strikers in the past has not been very good, so along with money, and a guaranteed first team place Newcastle may be more attractive.
As for the treatment of strikers, think about these :-
P.Beardsley
J.Aldridge
D.Saunders
S.Dundee
E.Mayer
K.H.Reidle
R Fowler
J.Litmenen
T.Camara
N.Anelka
E.Heskey
E.Diouf
D.Cisse
M.Baros
N.Mellor
S.Pongole
A.LeTallec
All have been treated poorly to a greater or lesser extent by Liverpool.I know that many of them haven't helped themselves with behavioural or attitude problems or simple lack of ability, but apart from Diouf no worse than many other strikers.
