LIVERPOOL VS REAL BETIS - CLOSED

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

spot on woof, a loss here and you could argue we would be favourites to go out of the group. Betis will more than likely beat Anderlecht which would mean we'd have to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to qualify.

Betis know they have to win, so will come at us hard, and with the quality of guys like Joaquin, they will be very dangerous. To field a weakened team would be madness, and the fella who said that this is the most important game of our season thus far isn't far off the truth tbh.

like the confidence judge, but can't see us winning that easily. I think Betis will score, so I'll go for 2 or perhaps 3-1 to us.

I think it's about time to rotate the squad a bit or else the more important players would be knackered. Some might say we have found our winning formula and that rotating is not neccessary, but since only a point is needed against Betis at home, we can definately afford squad rotation, seeing that a tough away fixture at Man City is coming up. We have enough quality on the bench anyways if worse comes to worse.

I have a feeling if we really do get draw and that Chelsea does not manage to get a win in Brussels come Wednesday, Gerrard/Carragher and Lampard/Terry, being such close friends in the national squad, would try to fix a result in Stamford Bridge to accompany both English teams in the last 16. Fingers crossed on this one. I really want Chelsea out though.

I think squad rotation is a definite no-no. You may think its a cert we've qualified but he reality is that we need 1 point in 2 games. We cannot assume that we're going to see a result at Stamford Bridge. Which leaves a home game against Betis who have improved considerably since we last played them.

I think we will qualify but we have to be very focused. On a more positive note if Chelsea fail to get a win at Anderlecht, they'll need points of us to qualify (assuming Betis beat Anderlecht on the final game).

Zenden deserves a start on wednesday he had his best game for us on saturday ran his socks off, Kewell will probably play though, but we are looking very good keeping clean sheets we should have enough to beat Betis at home, any one suggesting to play for a draw needs their bloody head testing, qualify on wednesday, thats the most important job out the way. Betis's striker Dani got injured on saturday he will be out for a month, dont know how good he is but thats one less player of theirs out the way.

Don't know why I'm being slated in here but never did I state I intend to play for a draw.

There is only 1 person who thinks that we should field a weakened side against betis...and thats the thread starter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but Militia imo yours is way off the mark.

We need 1 point to qualify and can do it with a game to spare making the trip to the bridge a reserves and youngsters outing.

Rafa is no way stupid enough to risk leaving things until the last game...and i am certain that we will have the strongest possible side out on wed.

I can sort of see Militias point about the game at city on sat, but the best way to go into that match would be having already qualified to the knock out stages of the champions league.
Good results bring confidence and we are on a decent run, changing the team against a potentially dangerous side would be far far too risky.

The starting eleven I fielded could hardly be called reserves and youngsters, could they?

Why did you leave Gerrard out the team ???  His name should be first on it before anyone, you dont get tired when your winning he only played 70 mins on saturday. Fat Frank played every game for the chavs last season and Terry there not being rested, you field your strongest 11 and Rafa will do so depending on the fitness of Xabi and Luis.

Okay here's my refined team:

              Reina

Finnan  Carragher  Hyypia  Riise

Sinama  Gerrard  Sissoko  Zenden

          Cisse  Crouch

SUBS: Dudek, Hamann, Alonso, Garcia, Kewell, Josemi, Morientes.

Choosing to leave out Alonso and Garcia would be a wise decision, seeing that they have been playing a lot recently as well as taking knocks. We have enough quality at our disposal.

over in spain we basically won the game in the first twenty minutes. we came out of the traps like we did against juventus last year and before you knew it we were 2-0 up. if we start the game well on wednesday and get an early goal that should settle the nerves and we should be ok.

betis don't travel well anyway. they may be a decent side going forward but defensively they're suspect to say the least. if we get at them i can see a comfortable win.

I didnt say that, i was saying play the strongest 11 on wed so we qualify first and then we can play whatever team we want in the last game.

About time we rotated the team?? We havent put the same team out twice for over 40 games, you think we would fix a result against chelsea?  oh im sure we will let Chelsea beat us so they go through, after all, i dont think the players are that bothered at gettin one over on a team that thumped us 4 1 at home. The only change for me would be Alonso in for Hamann, if fully fit.

I don't think we will do that but I was just pointing out that I had a vague feeling that would happen, provided we reach those circumstance.

yeah i think zenden deserves praise considering the ridiculous amount of stick he was getting from some quarters when he signed for us, despite the fact he cost nothing.

i said we would never see him play well until he played central midfield. he's no outside left. he's not got the pace or trickery to play there. give me a fit and firing kewell over him anyday.
