Just what I was thinkin Lyndz, I don't think we'll move for a striker if we don't hear any update between us and Owen in the next couple of days.

I just have to say Owen is a proven goalscorer you know he is gonna get you the 20 goals.Cisse and Morientes got no chance.Sell cisse and Nando and then get owen.

Your letting the fact that he want to come home blind you. REMEMBER he walked out on a new contract and all his fans who adored him

good point.  Come on folks, yes i want the guy to return but i'm still pi$$ed off at the fact he shafted us 12 months ago! :veryangry

Why are people blaming Rafa???  There is only ONE person to blame for all this, and that is Owen.  HE was the one who refused to sign a new contract, HE was the one who agreed to terms with Real BEFORE we agreed a fee, and HE would have left for a Bosman had we not sold him for HALF PRICE!

We need a defender and right midfielder and i praise Rafa for not getting swept away with the Owen histeria.

I've said it before, he's a good player, but massively overrated for the simple fact that he's English.  If we paid anywhere near 18mil for him it would be an absolute disgrace, never mind the fact we sold him for 8.

overrated? are you having a laugh?

nobody's saying that he's the most amazing all round striker, but if you look at his goalscoring record it's absolutely second to none, better than one in two infact.

it absolutely staggers me that arsenal and chelsea haven't been in for him. if owen went to chelsea they'd be virtually unstoppable.

news flash on sky sports

REAL ACCEPT TOON'S OWEN OFFER
Newcastle United have had a club record bid for Michael Owen accepted by Real Madrid but the England striker is still by no means certain to head for St James' Park.

No I'm not 'having a laugh' as you put it.

If Owen was better thought of outside of England then there'd be other clubs from Spain and a few Italian clubs in for him.  The fact that there is absolutely no interest from the big leagues abroad only reinforces the fact that the English media overrate him, Newcastle offering 18mil backs this up even further.  18mil?? if newcastle want to offer £18m for MO then Rafa is by no means to blame. To say we could have got him a week ago for £10-12m is wrong - we did not have £10-12m back then and also N/c would have stepped in at that time with their £18m bid.

at the end of the day it must be down to MO, a worthless existence at N/c or a chance to win things with Rafa - he made the wrong choice 12 months ago, surely he cannot get it wrong again!

We have already have Cisse and Nando ... What we need is a midfield with good passing, crossing and creative in that area ....

Isn't everyone forgetting that madrid still owe us 4 mil from the deal that took owen to madrid anyway. So if they want £14 or something like that i'm guessing we would negotiate about £10 mil and call of the 4 mil they owen us. No way is owen over rated. Sure of course he's not better than henry but he has prem experience and guarentees you 20 goals.

Did you see the stats on Sky at the weekend.

206 goals in 413 matches for Liverpool, England and Real Madrid.

What other striker can match this. Certainly none that we have. We may need a CB and RM but we need a finisher as well.

What a record! Get him now and get rid Morientes who IS NOT going to get goals for us. We have played three matches in the past ten days and scored one goal when we should have had at least ten.

good passing - thou name is alonso

good crossing - from the 1st 2 qualifying round thou name is warnock/zenden and remember gerrards goal in the CL final guess what that was from a riise cross.

creativity - thou name is gerrard

thats how Rafa sees it.  He won't blow the rest of his tansfer kitty on a 15+ million transfer for Owen and i don't blame him.  We need a central defender (unless you want Josomi as cover  :help ) We need a right winger, badly too!

it's rumoured Newcastle have offered 18 million for Owen.....thats way too much in my opinion.
