I would rather go for Dirk Kuyt.

Official transcript of contract negotiations between Rafa and Stevie :

Stevie 'I really want to sign a new contract.  Where do I sign boss?'

Rafa 'Great.  By the way, did I tell you that our big summer signing is going to be Peter Crouch?'

Stevie 'Errr....let's not rush things.  I'll be back tomorrow after I've talked to my advisers.  Just to check the small print you understand....'

bigmick wrote:In all seriousness he's not a bad player by any means. He caused us a deal of problems down at St Mary's and suffice to say Southampton haven't missed Beattie too much with him around.
People on here who are saying he is useless are well wide of the mark in my view, for a big man his touch is actually very good. I personally wouldn't go for it but there have been far more ridiculous suggestions on here before.
It's become a bit of a tradition that the three relegated teams get their best players nicked when they go down. It goes right back to Crystal Palace with Southgate and Ian Wright. Good players do play in relegated teams, Joe Cole, Glen Johnson (who is actually a left-midfielder if ever I've seen one but I digress), Jermaine Defoe, Alan Smith, Paul Robinson to name but a few in recent times. Those in the relegated teams that can cut it in the Prem will be nicked by the stayer uppers and some will get a bargain.
Expect to see Damien Francis, Dean Ashton, Andy Johnson, Wayne Routledge, Fitz Hall, Robert Greene, Robert Earnshaw, Johnathon Greening, Peter Crouch, Kevin Phillips, Anti Niemmi and the ball-winning midfielder at West Brom who's name escapes me (Robinson maybe?) stay up whatever happens with various clubs. Someone will get a bargain. Those who buy Francis, Greene, Niemi and obviosly :D Earnshaw will get value for money in my view. Crouch? dunno, I'm not sure I think he's got it but I'm not sure he hasn't either.

Big and ungamely, mentioned that to me old man the other day and you know what he said to me ?

Toshack.

Zoltan Gera impressed me more at the Baggies though Mick, and they are staying up after all.

Peter Crouch- completely changed my mind about him never never would i want him to come here especially not for £7m what a waste of money- simply not good enough for us. maybe ive changed my mind with the news of gerrard leaving and us getting around £40m for him so we can go after big names now instead of :censored: like crouch

truth be told i havent read any posts in this thread but i'll still post like i know whats going on...

Anyway when i heard crouch being linked with liverpool i smiled and said no chance then i hear southampton say the want 10mil then i laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed...

crouch with all due respect is a mid-table-team-player...

by the way do we need a striker

Morientes has just got started as has Cisse we'll give them a chance before we start thinking of buying a new striker...

the only way i would approve of buying a new striker is if we sold baros first (even though i really like him as a player, he has had a poor season) ... and it looks like his stayin so theres  no need

what we need is a left wing,(attacking) centre mid and maybe a right wing... no more no less (anyone who disagrees read my signature) :D
