i work at freshfields station in formby and i was talking to some workies who are apparently building a house for him there,means nothing i suppose as he can always sell it but it is interesting

the thing is it could just be an investment, all the footballers are doing it now, craig short formerly of everton is rumoured to be worth around 10m

Yes, very true, but Huyton has always been the refugee camp for those escaping South Liverpool in the same way that Kirkby is populated by those fleeing North Liverpool. Different tribes. And as we all know North Liverpolitans have always been far funnier (and harder by the way) than South Liverpolitans. Kirkbyites are jocular, hopeful people as a result. Huytonites the opposite.

If you plot cheerfulness on a graph with age on the x axis and south Liverpool at 0 and North Liverpool at 10 on the y axis you'll find Stevie G is fighting overwhelming odds in an attempt to smile. In contrast the theory suggests that Jamie Carragher, Bootle boy born and bred, should come out beaming. And practice shows he does - he's well known as the squad's joker and you'll never find him suggesting we can't win a trophy. His pint is always three quarters full. And look at Carra's Dad who not only has North Liverpool but age in his favour. Last week he fought to get back into an England friendly. That's a work of comedic genius.

So next time you see a Stevie G interview and start to despair, just remember everything has conspired against him. And that the only solution is for the club doctor to prescribe him prozac.

Gerrards interview about us not having much chance of progressin really p1ss me off! Then to read 'RAFA'S GERRARD WARNING' on sky sports is embarrising....

Gerrard has the potential to be awesome, many clubs have recognised this as proof! Gerrard needs to grow some balls and stop being so miserable!

If rafa can have a pop at Gerrard, then so can i! Ill support Gerrard till im dead but i cant stand to hear the guy have such a negative mentality about LFC then call it 'Realistic'?

Benitez issues warning to Gerrard

Reds skipper Steven Gerrard
Gerrard plays down hopes
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has ordered captain Steven Gerrard not to play down their Champions League ambitions and be more positive.

Gerrard told the BBC that the Reds were unlikely to win the trophy this year.

Benitez responded: "I spoke to Steven and said to him that in future it's better to think we can win the Champions League. Why not?"

He said: "We need winners here and everyone thinking only of winning. I always want to win."

Benitez added: "When we lose I only think of solutions. If you only think about winning the next game, you don't know what the draw will be.

"If we can win the next game, maybe we will draw a side that isn't so strong, or a side with injuries or suspensions."

Benitez is hoping to win his first trophy since arriving at Liverpool from Valencia when they play Chelsea in the Carling Cup on Sunday in Cardiff.

Gerrard, however, has played down the remarks he made.

"I did an interview while I was in Barcelona last week and someone saved certain things I said until the day of the Champions League, that I didn't think we could win the Champions League," he said.

"That was not how it was meant and not how I wanted it to come across.

"I was saying that the odds were against us winning it this year, but that doesn't mean we will not give it our best shot - but there are a lot of good teams left in the competition."

After experiencing the worst day of his life in Cardiff on Sunday Steven Gerrard remains determined to fulfil his boyhood dream of one day lifting a trophy as Liverpool captain.
Gerrard was left devastated by the 3-2 Carling Cup Final defeat to Chelsea at the Millennium Stadium.

And to compound his misery it was his 79th minute own goal that allowed the Londoners back into the match.

"I said before the game it would either be the best day of my life or the worst. Now it's the worst. I really felt we were going to hold on to the win," says the Reds skipper.

"It was a freak goal which has turned the game their way. I tried to stretch as far as I could to head it away but there was nothing I could do about it. I've never scored an own goal in my life and I can't believe it's happened in a final."

Gerrard was inconsolable at the end of a gruelling 120 minutes action in the Welsh capital but already he's talking of avenging this cruel defeat.

He adds: "I'm gutted for the lads and the supporters but we've now got to try and stay focused on qualifying for the Champions League.

"If we come fourth it will feel like we've won a cup final now because Everton have a big lead over us. This has made me more determined than ever to help us get into the top four. I haven't given up my dream of lifting a trophy as Liverpool captain.

"It's going to be a tough ask for us to win anything this year now, but we'll give it our best shot in the Champions League. Our hopes are still alive. If we get through and Chelsea get through I'd like us to meet them again because I'd fancy our chances."
