If the players have got anything about them mate they should be made up with that opening game, it's a great chance to set the record straight.
That run centered around October is very tough though -

MANCHESTER UNITED (A)
norwich  (H)
aston villa  (H)
EVERTON  (A)
TOTTENHAM  (A)
SOUTHAMPTON  (H)
CHELSEA  (A)
crystal palace  (H)
MANCHESTER CITY  (A)

Within the space of 9 games we play 6 of our rivals, 5 of them away from home.

I agree. The players should be wound up for the first game of the season! IF not, the internal inquest will start having not even played 100 minutes of the new season. REDEMPTION I think there call it...

We need to have points on the board before we head into those games. We will be up shyte creek if we have a slow start and look to reverse it over these fixtures.
A lot of points up for grabs there and it could be a defining period in our season.

We have to play them anyway so what order is incidental.

Agree totally, really need to come out of the block's firing on all cylinders, can't afford a slow start like last season as based upon the last time we played these teams (Norwich season before last) that's 11 points from a possible 27

It could have implications for the managers position though mate, the last thing he needs is another extended run of poor form.

I'm glad we have a difficult start to the season. It will separate the men from the boys and gives B-Rod the opportunity to prove his critics wrong, or not, as the case may be?
If he doesnt do well then Christmas will be the turning point...

I actually like Liverpool as underdogs as we play our best football when written off. I think Rodgers has a bit of pit bull in him and will get the team playing their best. I don't think there is time for the team to be overconfident and having to play Europa matches will mean they will be be at higher level of fitness than some of our rivals. I think we will cope with the start. Time for our next leaders to shine with the loss of Gerrard and hopefully they will show up without the pressure he may bring.

If I was a betting man I would bet on Liverpool to do well but I am not blind to how much of a long shot it will be. We really need to play above ourselves and as someone else said, our players need to play for the shirt and be counted. We will see who they are.

I am not saying we will be in first place as we will probably be mid table after the first run of games, but we will win and get some useful draws that will help us the tail end of the season. I choose to be hopefull we will show up and be counted.

I hope you are right but I fear the opposite, I remember last season him stating we come good in the second half of the season after our poor start and I am dreading the same next season

This may not necessarily be a bad thing, maybe it will give Rodgers the wake up call he needs and maybe he will start lobbying for some decent players to come in.

That was before he was made bookies favourite to be the first manager sacked. Wouldn't surprise me if we changed tack a bit and went for one or two who have got a bit more quality.

I would expect the "bookies odds" would have zero to do with what the manager does or which players he signs

Well if he thinks the likes of Milner and Ings are going to keep him in a job more fool him.

I think it's quite clear why he has purchased both players and they are both good signings for the squad

Not even kicked a ball yet so maybe at least let them pull the shirt on first.
