Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I just think if you concede so much possession to sides like City, Arsenal, United or Chelsea then sooner or later they are going to open you up, if you let the likes of hazard, mata, aguero, silva, van persie etc continually knock at your door then it's almost inevitable that you'll concede at some point.
Arsenal come here in a fortnight, if we only have 39% possession in that game I don't think we'll win it.
I agree that with our strike force we don't necessarily have to have Barcelona-esque passing stats but I think to realistically beat the top sides you need to at least have parity.

You're banging on about possession like its the be all and end all. It means very little in the grand scheme of things and Gerrard was far from the main culprit last night in conceding it. He was quite frankly head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch last night and I find it laughable people are doing their best to dismiss this performance as a one off... its a performance the likes of Lucas can only dream of putting in and doesn't come as a surprise to anyone with an ounce of sense.

As I said earlier in the season, he's past his best, he's no longer "world class", but he's still a fuc*ing good player, those calling him a liability and promoting average players causes really need to take a look at themselves.

Gerrard had a great game vs Everton and it shows he still has it in his locker.

However we havent seen that gerrard since god knows when a few more shows like that and im sure most of this place will sing his praises again

The liability wasn't bad again today either.

Just goes to show how much better we are with Gerrard instead of Lucas.

Also funny how Gerrard is now averaging more tackles and interceptions a game in the matches he's played in this position than Lucas has his in his entire career. :)

No matter how well  he does Stu now thats he's lost some pace and is no longer banging in 30 yard screamers there'll always still be some that'll want to p'iss on a man who is undeniably one of the very best to have ever worn our shirt.

Looks like he's settling in that DM role. Really hope that I was wrong about him.

You don't have to "hope" mate, it's already confirmed, you were wrong   :D    .

Honestly can't believe how many people in here doubted him.

One of the best all round footballers this nation has seen for generations, performance after performance for club and county, and yet some still rush to bury him, I just don't understand it.

He may no longer be the sparkling champagne attacking playing we knew and loved but he's still one of the sharpest footballing brains in the premiership and still has the desire and skill to perform at the top table.

All you doubters can put your knives away, the legend that is Gerrard is far from finished.

Kinnell Woof I was far more polite to our owner bashers and you accuse me of being a Betty. Terrible double standards mate. Give yerself a damn good bollucking !!!

On a serious note mate what a day. Tremendous performance again by Gerrard. I've been a fan of Lucas for a long time. He's loyal, determined and extremely hard working and he's one of ours. Unfortunately though at the moment I can't see a place in the team for him. Massive credit to BR for utilising one of the clubs greatest ever assets so effectively.

Yup he played well today, he wasn't spectacular (and that penalty was stupid) but anytime your midfield plays as well as that against Arsenal you have to give credit were it's due. That first delivery to skrtel was almost undefendable too, he didn't even need to get a foot on it, any sort of touch and it was a goal the ball was that good.

I believe it needed mentioning when Gerrard was seriously under performing ,and I'm not about to make apologies to the few cranks who believe
its far more important to say 'I told you so' rather than laud what was a more than credible performance as DM from Gerrard.

Gerrard played well today ,and I hope its the shape of things to come ,but I'm still of the opinion its not a role he has the energy to perform when
we play away  ,but I will say making tackles and interceptions was a comforting sight today.

I don't understand how anyone can watch so many under par performances and still not have the fucking stones to say it as they see it ,now that
baffles the bejeezus out of me ..Also whilst were mulling over what we find bemusing I find it ridiculous that when the Oldham game wasn't televised or
indeed streamed ,not a single poster other than myself contributed to the match rating thread ....... bewildering to say the least .

Its also a source of amazement how after the Villa game there was no poster willing to defend Gerrards abject display ,but when he raises his game against
the usual high profile suspects the ***** wavers are out in force.....

Really? You post that in relation to Gerrard but completely fail to acknowledge that, that is exactly some other people's view on your opinions on Lucas.

That performance today proved everything you need to know about Liverpool's midfield... IE... its much better when Lucas isn't involved.

And as I've said many a time, Gerrard can do everything Lucas can do and a massive amount more. Good post though...
