Tiago Ilori is  the type of classy defender Real Madrid and Barcelona have been snapping up for countless years.

Welcome to Liverpool Football Club lad ,now become a legend.

this right here ^    :buttrock

Was just wondering about this fella today. What's the plan for his development ?

Would have thought the cup game at Man U  could have been an ideal opportunity for BR to give Tiago (and maybe one or two other younger players) a go.

Liverpool have confirmed that defender Tiago Ilori has joined La Liga side Granada on loan for the rest of the season.

The centre-back, 20, arrived from Sporting Lisbon on Sept. 2 in a seven million pound deal, but has yet to make a first-team appearance.

Ilori, who is under contract at Anfield until 2018, joins a Granada side lying 10th in La Liga.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said last Friday that he intended to send the defender out on loan to gain experience.

Rodgers said then: "He has come in and he now knows what Liverpool are all about.

"It has been difficult for him in terms of game time because he hasn't played, but he has come in and shown the profile of the player we thought he would be."

Why am I NOT Fu*king SURPRISED  :veryangry

Yet another young player signed for good money and not given a sniff at showing what he can do  :veryangry   :veryangry

No f'ucking wonder our owners are no longer quick to come forward with cash for BR's "throw mud at the wall and some might stick" approach to recruitment.    :veryangry

simple. Playing style.

Send him out to loan in England and the likelihood is he joins a side who play direct football and he only goes and gains bad habits or habits that don't fit into our philosophy

i wouldnt have thought a side like granada are renown for great football.  :D
besides he could have learned how to fit in with our philosophy here and got to grips with the real backbone of english football which is pace and physicality. that is what i would have thought was holding him back from 1st team appearances, not having to learn how to pass a ball.
there arent many clubs left who play route 1 stuff and if sunderland and stoke are good enough for borini and assaidi to learn our playing style then why not this guy.
we have also played lads years younger than him so its a strange one.

Seems to playing well in Spain. Hopefully when he comes back next season, he'll be in contention for a place in the first team soon enough.

Good assist but did anyone caught the whole game? I forgot that we had the lad loaned over there, otherwise I would have watched it.

Loaning out youngsters makes no sense. If they're not good enough to play for us why sign them? So we invest in the future then loan them out to get experience. I imagine what players learn whilst on loan at grade B and C teams on the field (competitiveness, how to stand up for yourself) are of limited value, and in some cases, detrimental to development. We've shared Suso's wages with other clubs for years and he's never been deemed good enough for us. Why learn the game at a lower level? It makes little sense to me. The early years of a players career shape his mentality and style and should be learned with us, if they're any good of course. But then we have Coates too, and ahead of him, Sahko, Skrtel, Agger and Toure. We deemed it vital to the squad to replace Cara, and brought in Sahko too. If the old defensive head is good for a squad, why not a young, hungry lad like this Portuguese fella who is clearly held in high regard and with a good future. Should be learning his trade with us.

They say if you're young enough, your good enough, but this lad is what, 20, 21? Not particularly young in comparison to some, and now in lower tier Spain. The mind boggles.

From the clips I've seen of him playing for Granada this lad looks very promising, for a very tall lad he is remarkably comfortable on the ball, infact I'd say he looks even more comfortable in possession than Agger,  he looks pretty quick too once he gets into his stride. Obviously being that tall he is great in the air but he leaps like a stag as well, very athletic.
He gets caught out once or twice positionally but what 21 year old CB doesn't?
I'd like too see him and sakho get a run in the cup games next season, we could potentially have a great CB partnership there in a season or two.
