The goalkeeper has now denied suggestions the Reds accepted a loan offer from Napoli without his knowledge, and expressed happiness at linking up with Rafael Benitez again

Pepe Reina has backtracked on claims Liverpool accepted a loan offer from Napoli without his consent, now insisting he holds no ill feeling over the move.

The goalkeeer posted an open letter on his personal website earlier in the week that alleged the Anfield outfit had made arrangements to send him to Italy for the upcoming campaign without discussing matters with him first.

However, Reina has now moved to clarify his position, maintaining that whilst he believes the situation was not dealt with in an ideal way, he is, in fact, delighted to link up with Rafael Benitez.

"I'm not angry with Liverpool - quite the opposite. I am very grateful to them for everything they have given me," he told Spanish radio programme El Larguero on Wednesday. "My departure was different to what I expected, but I will always be grateful to them.

"The signing wasn't sealed, because you can't do that without the consent of the player, but it was at an advanced stage and I didn't know about it.

"This is the nature of football - when you are loved by a team, you really feel it, but when you go through bad moments, you are treated differently. In the end I will remember the love I felt from the fans for so many years.

"My time in England is where I have felt truly like a footballer and I have put my name among the best players. I'm very proud to have played almost 400 games with Liverpool."

Reina went on to note that the presence of former Liverpool manager Benitez at the helm of Napoli has made his unanticipated switch to southern Italy more palatable.

"Rafael Benitez is the best coach I have had. I don't know if I'd have joined Napoli without him being there.

"There are many positive things about the city of Napoli and they have a fervent support, like Liverpool's, but Benitez being there made it much easier for me to sign."

Yes forums are about opinions and posters who express their opinions in such a way that they know they will annoy other members are not making valid contributions. They are simply seeking attention with the same repetitive nonsense. I like opinion but I hate arrogance and belligerence. Just look at your attitude towards our owners, IA and BR. At every opportunity you will have a childish dig. Can't you see that it becomes tedious? Constructive criticism is one thing but most of the time you are anything but constructive or reasonable.

As I said Benny I'm beginning to feel sorry for you. The amount of time you spend on here is unbelievable. Your arguments generally end in the same way. This most recent one has ended with you taking on what appears to be a very aggressive approach which no doubt you will deny. Stop being such a fkg ars.e regardless of how upset you are getting. You bring it all upon yourself and then try blaming everybody else. You claim to be 42 and yet the way you behave is akin to somebody with the age totalling those two figures. Is it impossible for you to to realise that your rowing your own boat with one oar and that at times it takes a ridiculous amount of time for you to appreciate that you are actually wrong?

I do my very best to ignore you but given that almost every thread is littered with your negativity it becomes extremely difficult. Your messing up this forum with your desire to be significant. Give it a rest please.

You recently decided on a number of occasions to dispense with the agreement that we had to ignore each other. Possibly because the vast majority of people on here have decided that you are not really worth bothering with so you decided annoy me with your usual inaccurate drivel.

Look, you know my view of you as a supporter and if you are struggling to realise that most people on here think you are an argumentative prick then just go back over the last couple of pages of this thread. no he's not, the only really irritating poster on here these days is you, just look at how many people you have upset and have multi-thread flame wars with. At some point you have to take a look at yourself. I used to really p!ss a lot of people off on this forum but i came to realise that it just creates a bad atmosphere and doesn't help anything. Just learn to shut the F up every now and then even when you know you are in the right, that is the mature approach.

Let it go guys. Redno7, you're quite an aggressive poster as I discovered after posting for the first time in months. Benny, you're repetitive and respond to too many posts. You have a 'back to the wall' attitude, which is understandable. This stuff was entertaining at first. Everyone loves a barney. Y'all need to chill and stop stomping all over Pep's thread.

Reina messed up and he knows it. It'll all drift away in a little while and we can remember what a fine member of our team he was. Good luck Reina.
