Just as I was starting to doubt whether Gerrard could still cut it he's had a real purple patch in terms of form and I don't think that Lucas coming back around the same time is just coincidence.
It was interesting having him on 'Goals on Sunday'this morning. This is what he said on a range of subjects as far as I remember...
He said the treble winning side in 2001 was the best LFC side he played in but that it was inferior to the Arsenal side at the time in every department. I would have thought the 2008/09 side with Alonso, Masch, Torres etc that pushed United all the way would've been his pick, especially with his partnership with Torres.
When asked if he thought Torres regretted going to Chelsea, he reckons he probably does with hindsight. He says Torres doesn't get the love at Chelsea he got at LFC and that at LFC the whole team was set up to get the best out of Torres, whereas at Chelsea Torres has never been the main man.
He reckons after Messi and Ronaldo, Suarez is as good as any player in the world, comfortably in the top 5 players and definitely the best he's ever played with. Says nobody wants to play against Suarez in training because he makes them look silly. When asked if Suarez would leave to play CL elsewhere he says he doesn't know. He reckons Suarez is happy but that a player of his calibre needs to be playing in the CL. He says if we can push on and get top 4 this season it makes Suarez's decision for him.
In terms of new signings he reckons we need a defender and a 'number 10 who can maybe also play on the wings'. He didn't quite say Wisdom wasn't ready for 1st team but kind of hinted at it when talking about a need for cover at the back, but I can't remember his actual words. When asked directly about Sneijder he said 'yes please' and smiled. He also says that Sneijder would need to drop his wage demands and it depends on whether Rodgers wants him, but the players would all welcome him if he signed.
