hitting the post or frame wont win us games. his composure infront of goal is too poor to be a false 9.
just see the newcastle game in which suarez squared the ball to him in the 6 yard box which the keeper out of position,
shelvey can only shoot tamely back to the keeper.

i still remember a young gerrard with little hair and wearing the long sleeves old LFC jersey hitting lighting fast shots 18, 25, 12, 6 yards all over the pitch. going into 50-50 challenges without fear. the more i see shelvey the more i think he is further from gerrard.

well in THIS instance it was harder to score than miss. He was on an angle and it was quite a stunning shot. 3 inch to the right and it was goal of the season.

and whose comparing him to Gerrard? he's a different player.

Jonjo Shelvey is 20 years old, this is what people don't understand, he's had around two years of regular first team football, he's never going to be a World Class footballer like Steven Gerrard used to be, but I believe he can be a very good footballer and an influential player for us, Rodgers clearly sees a lot of potential in him like he does with Suso, Sterling and Wisdom. His shot on Saturday was worthy of goal and tell me what player hasn't missed a sitter? Lionel Messi has missed sitters in his time. Cut the lad some slack and be patient with him.

I disagree I think he has the potential to be as good as Stevie G, he just needs more time and to settle into the more. I would prefer to see him start games instead of Stevie.

I'd like to see him playing more first team football, I think he offers more drive, determination and tempo than Steven does and it is evident to me that Gerrard is living off what he did six and seven years ago, not what he's doing this season which hasn't been an awful lot in fairness.

My midfield duo would be Lucas, Allen and Shelvey. With Sahin and Gerrard in reserve, the only reason I leave Sahin out is he just hasn't adapted to English football yet and he might be one of these players who isn't suited to the English game. A cracking young footballer for sure, but maybe English football is not best suited to him? Who knows?!

Thats a bit much.

I rate Shelvey, I see potential to be great but Gerrard despite the fact is clearly isn't as influential as before is still a guaranteed starter for me.

It's a shame Sahin hasn't turned out to be more influential. Had he have come in and staked a proper claim we'd have been much better off. Instead we've found ourselves (IMO) over using an aged Gerrard to the point where he's struggling to play to a constantly high level where mistakes are creeping in. The same can be said for Shelvey, he's capable of playing a nice pass every now and then and looking a goal threat but overall his techical ability is quite cumbersome and he more than not runs around like a headless chicken. Both players IMO ideally need to be used more sparingly, Gerrard due to his age and Shelvey due to the naivety of his age, had he been more accomplished like Sterling at his age there wouldn't be a problem but that's not the case. I think this is why Rodgers tried out Henderson again for a couple of games. Rodgers doesn't have the ideal quality and like I said it's a shame Sahin hasn't really hit the heights because he does possess quality of some sort.

We are all saying that Sahin is rubbish but when he played didn't he score some really nice goals, why is he suddenly not getting a game at all?

i`ve been dissappointed in sahin, i thought he`d be much more influential than he has been.
he`s obviously a good player who`s comfortable on the ball but he`s really struggling to come to terms with the pace and physicality of the prem.
against teams that play with a high tempo or teams that like to get stuck in he`s practically anonymous.
his loan deal wasnt cheap either, by some accounts we are paying £5m/£6m just to have him here for one season, benitez actually bought (as opposed to loaned) the likes of lucas, reina and agger for similar amounts of money.
hopefully he will come good in the second half of the season.

he was only loaned by real so he could get 1st team experience at a decent level. at the time i thought it was a bit naive paying 5 mil for a lad that was going to halt the progress of lads already here like shelvey, hendo and suso. the fact that he's not being played kinda stinks when we could have put that 5 mil to the 3 we offered for dempsey or spent it elsewhere.
he does look like he could be a decent player but i think we were mugs paying 5 mil to have him on loan.
