When we lost Luis for 9 games last season our record was: won 6 lost 2 and draw 1 and that wasn't because Andy Carroll was suddenly knocking in the goals. Andy showed some significant improvement during the last three months but he still only scored 2 league goals from 1st January to the end of the season. One of the goals was against Wolves in a very easy 3-0 win and the other was the winner against an awful relegation fighting Blackburn in the 90th minute. Andy's 87th minute FA Cup winning goal against Everton understandably gained him instant hero status but his overall performance in the league was very very poor and he could never be regarded as a replacement for an injured Suarez.

@ maypax

As exciting as Sterling is "going" to be, he is just that, a talent. I've seen my fair share who jutst flaterred to decieve, el-zhar, mark kennedy, sebastien leto, mark gonzales just friom the top of my head.

While carroll's talent/ability is recognized at least by the newcastle supporters & the england coaches. Thinking about davids, henry & vieira, who needed bedding time to get going in a team or in the case of henry who neede a change of position before being superb, I just hope we wont miss out on carroll.

But my point is, I just pray Brendan has more insight & coaching ability than your average 15mill player coach because we need him to get the best out of our current crop of players we have now.

The transfer window is closed & his gonna have to do with what he have now.

Turn to wear your coach's hat now Brendan. No,more politics, no more negotiating, no more PR work. Lets see how you turn side around.

It's over to you now.

P.s. Its just baffles me how he could put faith on a 17 yr old but not on an england international.

Downing is an england international

I like the way we have been playing and I think with Allen coming into his game and now with Sahin we should create more chances. Shame we couldn't get in another striker but we can thank FSG for that.

Im afraid Brendan, and not the yanks, will take the flak now  if we don't get the right results.

I still firmly believe Rodgers was the right man for the job ,but like Benitez realized sometimes sagacity alone will not compensate for being bereft of
the players required .... I mean why the fuck would these owners seemingly get their own man in and then dilute his impact with a lack of funds.

I'm heartily sick of having penny pinching landlords ,hampering the manager by virtually providing fuck all backing in the transfer window .
Im equally as disheartened with posters and fans claiming these cuntz backed Dalglish when we sold Torres ,Meireles and Benayoun .
Given the financial clout that's actually  behind FSG it was practically fuck  all ,when compared to the promises they made about sparing no
expense in bringing in top quality additions if and when they became available .

The fuckers are a wee bit quiet today ,no rousing speeches ,or gripes about other clubs not conforming to the rules .

FSG still have spent around £50m net and saved us from the brink!

they are not as bad as some of the OTT reactions!

Last year they should have been more hands on though and not allowed kenny to spend the crazy transfer fee's.

what a load of rubbish, carroll was one of our better players during the second half of last season and probably ended the season as our best player.
granted he didnt score a lot of goals in the league but that doesnt mean he wasnt contributing in other ways.
look at his performance against everton in the 3-0 game at anfield, or the 4-1 against chelsea at anfield, what about his performance against united in the cup? or brighton in the cup? not to mention his heroic`s in the cup final.

Am I the only one that's less than impressed with Rodgers ?

F'uck all the talk about the owners and lets stop looking for excuses for the new manager.

I'm a long way from being impressed with his performance so far , many have commented on his straight talking style, SFW ? talk is cheap, it's performance and results that us as fans should be concerned with.

Performance wise under Rodgers we've looked a lot tidier and ball retention has been better, a cause for celebration ?  :no . All well and good having the ball BUT it's what you do with it that actually counts and so far with the ball we've done fk all. At Anfield against Hearts, a team that would struggle in the English second tier, we had 70% of the possession and yet managed only four shots on target  :p

Against Man City at home we managed to get 49% of possession and just 3 shots on target, ok they are the current champs so some may be happy with a point but I believe that was gained from the players raising their game rather than any PLAN the new manager had.

We finally arrive at the end of the transfer window and Rodgers through his dismal transfer activity has thinned out the squad almost to the point where there will come a time in the rest of the season when we will struggle to even field eleven players that could be described as senior.

And before any of you start, don't f'ucking talk to me about Rodgers lack of funds. If you don't have the money to buy in new blood, as manager yer put yer foot down and refuse to release the likes of Bellamy, Kuyt and Carrol even if they don't fit your "plan"

Honeymoon's over Mr Rodgers I want points on the board and not platitudes.

Do you think Rogers trimmed the squad for the fun of it ? Of course not, he was under presuure from FSG to reduce the wage bill and his way of doing it was to bring in hungry young players on lower wages who could play his style of football.

It almost worked as well except for a lack of communication and a few million quid, with a loan striker and Dempsey our squad would have looked a lot stronger.

I'm happy for FSG to be sensible with money but we have to learn from this and make sure we don't make the same mistakes again, it's going to take time to build a competitive squad and let's hope the lack of replacements in this window isn't going to be too big a setback.

I'm dissappointed but lets hope we can get some good results and hope FSG back us in the next transfer window.

Yes then they'll no doubt sack him like they did with Dalglish and bring in somebody else and repeat cycle again and again and again. They're blithering idiots.

Honeymoon over after 2 league games? You talk about ball possession being nothing compared to converting chances but we don't have a 20 goal a season striker and Rogers wasn't allowed to get one. Suarez needs to start converting more yes but id take the better style of play and possession over the way we were playing last season any day of the week.

I've been impressed with Rodgers in terms of interviews and I like the way he has us playing, already I can see improvements. Tubby is right though, we will struggle with goals this season because FSG haven't allowed Rodgers to bring another striker in. We also need to cut the silly errors out at the back. Agger and Skrtel in the first league match, Kelly and Skrtel in the second match and Reina against Hearts. Cut those out and we'll start climbing up that table.
