Brendan Rodgers thread (signs extended contract)

What I really like about BR so far is that he sees talent and let the best players play.
That bad part, which isn't his fault, is the expensive dross left out of the team.
I hope Cole, Carra, Adam, Spearing, Henderson stays out.  The faster they get shipped out the better.

Agree apart from Hendo being dross. He has something to offer the squad and will improve. Wish we could ship Cole and Adam out though.

Carra expensive dross?!  Have some respect for a club legend.  Putting him in the same bracket as the other players you mention is an absolute disgrace.

Granted his best days are behind him and he's probably on 100k per week, which isn't value for money with the amount of games he's likely to play this season, but his value to the group should not be underestimated and he can still do a decent job when called upon, and we will definitely need him at times this season.

Regarding his contract, what is the club supposed to do?  They inherited the contract he's on.  Do you ask a club legend to agree to mutually terminate it and be on his way, or hawk his name around other clubs and try and force him out?  The dressing room would be absolutely up in arms if that happened.

Totally agree, Carra is getting worse and worse but you can't put him in the same category as those complete lack of talent and passion mercenaries which Comolli and Kenny brought in. The sooner we get rid of Spearing, Cole, Downing and Adam the better. I still feel that Carroll might be useful but I'll respect whatever BR decides. I really like his style and predict big things for him and consequently for us. I genuinely feel we have a shot at 4th place this year as we'll only get better and better as time goes on and we're already good enough to give the reigning champs a damned good game.
BTW what a player Sterling is and also Allen.

The only dross around here is you. Seriously who includes the a club legend like Carra in a list like that?

Can you be shipped out by the end of the window also. Just like some of the failed purchases who should be at the club, you shouldn't be able to post on forums designed for Liverpool supporters.

I am not surprised its you and Penguin slating Carra like that .

I can pretty much guarantee that you will be amongst the first who will critisize Sterling or Allen the first mistake they make or first poor game.

Has your new City shirt arrived yet ?

Well, he doesn't really belong on that list, but I was referring to his excessive wage packet and that it is hurting to have that much wage put on players not good enough.
Carra being just one of many in the same boat.
It's 2012 now and not 2005 anymore. Shall we ***** away money on players just cause they once were good?

Yes. We've fcked up in letting the likes of Murphy, Hyypia, Hamann...etc leave way before their time; regardless of whether they were finished football-wise or not. Players with experience help the younger players around them and in that respect, we have a lot to learn from Alex Ferguson and Manchester United. We also need some leadership in the dressing room given how young our squad is becoming, letting another vastly experienced player (not to mention a club legend) leave because we want to save a little money is about as daft and ignorant as your first post.

If Rodgers is happy to give Sterling a first team opportunity in a game like that, I'm sure it bodes well for the likes of Suso and one or two others who are similarly skilled. From what I saw of Suso over the summer in the U19's, he's a class act. A bit small perhaps, but then again so is Silva and he can cope....
Not sure how many others are really good enough to be given the chance though.....

Carra on little money?
One of the highest paid players in the team, highest paid defender and he is 4th choice cb.
Hey, why not bring back Aldo, Rush, Barnes etc back into the team and give them a fortune so they can tutor the players...  :no
Sigh, it's with that sentimentality you get nowhere.

Ferguson doesn't keep around players if they aren't good enough. And surprise, Scholes and Giggs do contribute on the field!
Which Carra stopped doing a couple of seasons back. But please don't let that cloud your judgement.

Can't say how happy I am with Rodgers, we are already looking great, Joe Allen has been outstanding already!

The thing that's impressed me with Rodgers is he is reconising the below par players and not playing them! Downing was dropped for Sterling, Coates in for the suspended Agger ahead of Carragher, Shelvey was put on for the injured Lucas, he could have put Hendo, Spearing or Adam in there but opted for Shelvey! It's brilliant!  I was made up with that team against City.

Full credit to the gaffer could be a good few years ahead

Love this quote by Rogers:

Great quote because he adddresses half a dozen players without having to say a word direct to them. Buck up or you're out.

Big clear out in Jan I reckon.

Also, Carra isn't stupid, he will understand more than anyone that his skill-set does not necessarily suit Rodgers style of play BUT if you watched him during pre-season you can see that he completely cut the hoof ball out of his game and was finding feet with every pass so already he was amking adjustments. Funnily enough, I'm actually less fearful of Carra committing a similar mistake to Skrtel at the weekend because he has so much experience playing out in space (the way BR is aksing our CBs to play) from his time as a full-back. The bigger worry on Carra is playing him in a high line when (as we know) he has lost a step and has got a little stiff in the hips. However, I expect him to contrubute with some important performances this season and given that the squad seems to be getting younger and younger his prescence and unseen influence in the dressing room will be very important this year.
