I'm not saying that Kenny would have definitely turned things around but even with the league decline last season two cup finals were still reached and the likes of Carroll became much better as the season finished.
Kenny believed that he could turn the league form around we'll never know that would have happened but the element of continuity that Kenny was beginning to build even if the league form didn't deliver has now gone back to square one with Rodgers coming in. With Henderson and Carroll not making the starting eleven and the likes of Borini and Allen struggling to really much of an impact yesterday it seems to me that we're back to square one again.
What I'm saying is that even if Kenny wasn't the right choice long term surely it might have been better to have given him another year to improve things so that he could have walked away at the end of the third year with the team genuinely challenging again for the top four. That would have enabled someone like Rodgers to put into practice his ideas with a team that was going places.
I feel that by appearing to panic and ditch Kenny after one season the owners effectively have now set themselves up for another back me/sack me situation with Rodgers. It's still very early in the season but the fixtures in the next few weeks are difficult to say the least. Are they going to be brave enough to stick with him come what may if things do get worse?
The next two games against City and Sunderland to my mind could well decide the season they're that critical as I see it.
Agreed - continuety is the only way forward in football and it takes brave football club owners to relise this. KK was on his journey having turned average players into winners in their 1st season - something that Arsene has failed to do with an even better team consistently, yet he still finds himself in a job because of CL qualification?
I jsut hope all my fears are not realised and BR becomes our best manager in 25 years... Mmmm - that's a lot of hope?
