I agree with Benny to an extent though, we're miles away from CL at the moment and hopefully our fans / owners realise that and give him time + Support.

My expectations would be a top 6 finish and a cup.

I excited about BR coming in, i like the way his Swansea team play and I agree with some other posters on here that some of our players massively under performed last year, we had many games where we totally dominated only to lose or draw, I'm hopeful that with his philosophy and coaching he will get the best out of them next season and with a couple of additions we can start challenging the top 4. I want him to succeed  so LFC succeeds, so to all you doom and gloom merchants out there, shut the fu,ck up, get behind him and give him a chance.

1-0 to Rodgers: New Liverpool boss refused to work under a sporting director

Ballsy Brendan stood firm against plans to parachute Louis van Gaal in over his head – and has recorded his first victory at the club!
Brendan Rodgers has agreed a three-year deal to become Liverpool’s new manager.

And, in a major boost to Rodgers, Louis van Gaal looks increasingly unlikely to be appointed over him as sporting director.

Rodgers, 39, agreed to become Liverpool boss on a £3million a year deal, after speaking to Reds officials, including chairman Tom Werner, on Wednesday.

The Ulsterman then travelled to south Wales to tell Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins that he wanted to quit the Liberty Stadium after two years to move to Anfield.

Liverpool will pay nearly £5m in compensation for the remaining three seasons of a contract Rodgers signed earlier this year.

Van Gaal pressed his claims to become manager when he spoke to Liverpool officials, but they feel that the 60-year-old Dutchman does not fit the profile they are looking for.
It means Rodgers will have more control at Anfield if the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach - a huge footballing figure with an ego to match -  does not come in.

However, Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group are still committed to overhauling their management structure and reserve-team boss Pep Segura is expected to be promoted to a senior technical director role.

Some fans had wanted to see European Cup-winning boss Rafa Benitez return to Anfield after the sacking of Kenny Dalglish, but the majority have welcomed Rodgers’ appointment and are prepared to give him a chance.
FSG owner John W Henry believes Rodgers perfectly fits the profile he wanted of a young, rising manager.

The American is hugely impressed by the CV of Rodgers, who learned his trade under Jose Mourinho before cutting his managerial teeth with Watford and Reading.

Henry will back his new manager and provide him with a transfer kitty of up to £25m to finance a challenge for a Champions League place.

Rodgers has travelled extensively around Europe studying different coaching techniques, and speaks Spanish and Italian.
The Ulsterman is also committed to playing passing football, which is a major plus in his favour.

Part of the reason Kopites turned on Dalglish's predecessor Roy Hodgson was because they felt his tactics were too direct.

Henry has come under fire for casting his net so wide, but feels he will be vindicated by his decision to go for Rodgers.

After initially rebuffing Liverpool because he did not want to be part of a beauty contest, Rodgers was happy to speak to the Reds when he knew they were serious about appointing him.

There was no official word from Liverpool on Wednesday night.

They may wait until Friday - the day they parade their new Warrior Sports-made kit - to unveil Rodgers.

Interesting and not surprisingly no actual quotes from the person himself and as Rodgers himself hasn't said anything nor Liverpool you can file it in the bin with the rest of the rubbish.

The club weeks ago said there would be no Director Of Football and the role would be split up - Pep Segura getting one of those roles and the search for the other role continues - lazy journalism but expected.

Latest information I have is FSG remain committed to new managerial structure, even if some job titles are slightly tweaked.

LIVERPOOL FC legend Robbie Fowler has warned Brendan Rodgers he faces a “massive challenge” at Anfield when the Northern Irishman takes charge as the new Reds boss.

With only compensation to Swansea now to be resolved, it looks likely that Rodgers’ appointment as successor to Kenny Dalglish will be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

But Fowler – whose personal choice would have been the man who brought him back to Liverpool for an emotional swan-song, Rafael Benitez – has emphasised the problems facing the new boss.

“For what Brendan Rodgers has achieved at Swansea, he deserves huge respect,” Fowler said.

“He’s worked under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea so he knows the score and he’s worked with top players.

“It’d be a massive step-up for Rodgers to manage Liverpool, if he gets the job, as expected now.

“The new manager will need to bring in new players again to take Liverpool from a top-eight club to a top-four club.

“That’s going to be really difficult. It’s a massive challenge.

“Because the top four are going to bring in new players too and that gulf increases again.

“I have to say it, right now the 2012/2013 season looks like it’s going to be another difficult one for Liverpool fans.”

Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins has released a statement on the future of manager Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool's bid to bring in Brendan Rodgers as their new manager is stalling over the compensation package proposed by his current club Swansea.
The Welsh club have confirmed that Rodgers has told chairman Huw Jenkins that he wants to accept an offer to become the Reds manager.
But although Rodgers is expected to be officially unveiled as Kenny Dalglish's successor in the next 24 hours, the Swans are reportedly holding out for a £5m pay-off.
Jenkins released a statement announcing he has agreed to let Rodgers go, and that he was currently negotiating a compensation package with Liverpool officials.
"I was contacted by Liverpool and they expressed their wish to speak to Brendan regarding their vacancy," the statement read.
"I had a discussion with Brendan to talk about their interest and his views on whether he wanted to speak to Liverpool.
"He expressed his wish with me to do that and, following on from discussions with Liverpool's owners, Brendan has informed us that he would like to take up their offer to manage Liverpool.
"At the moment we are currently in talks with the owners to agree compensation. We are trying to finalise that within the next 24 hours."

A bit of a contradiction there, 'stalling over the compensation' and 'trying to finalise that within the next 24 hours'. It would take a lot longer than 24 hours if it was stalling.

Swansea are just posturing for compensation now. It'll happen.

Wise words from Fowler. I have no expectations for next season apart from evidence of sensible management and rebuilding. None at all. Top four would be an immense acheivement.
