all that come out was that they have both been very ill, Hicks try to use it as to why he had some probs paying back a loan and missed some meetings.

Fox News run a bit about both of them the other week, on twitter the same weeks someone posted he spends most of his time in and out of Hospital now.

Delighted for Stevie... Liverpool at Wembley is a dream of his.

Very cool yet again with the penalty. Another impressive moment was at the early stage of the second half when a Man City player broke away just past central midfield (think it was Nasri) and Stevie just let him go past. He knew he couldnt get a fair tackle in so held both hands up to make it clear he wasn't impeding him. Had he touched him it was a second booking and he was off. Hes so aware of everything thats required on the field, and we are a completely different side with him on it.

It will be a sad day for football when Stevie finally hangs up his boots. In these money filled days where teams try to by success, Stevie has pride, passion, honour and loyalty until the very end. The Last Samurai, the Last of the Mohicans, the Last....

They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

Heard a rumor that he got injured (in the City game) and will probably miss the match vs Wolves.

Hard to believe he got injured during the City game (took part in the on field cool down after the match, which I watched on .TV) then played 70 minutes three days later.

150k a week buys you loyalty.

Lets not forget he nearly went to chelsea ( twice ) before he came to his senses and realised what playing for LFC means.

He is our talisman.

But i can see him missing the wolves game to give him a rest, we should have enough quality to beat them without him.

Understood. But the main focus of this should be on the latter part of your statement. He might have nearly left us twice, but he didn't. He stayed loyal. As for the 150k a week, he could have earned more elsewhere and won silverware too. Ultimately his love of the Reds is what he's stayed loyal to. I pray we win the league before he hangs up his boots.

God knows he deserves it.

After all Gerrard done for this club, i think he was entitled to at least consider moving to another club while he was in his peak years. Thankfully he didnt and hopefully we can bag another trophy or two before he retires. We're still on course this season in both domestic cups.

England fans call for captain Gerrard

Steven Gerrard is the GMF fans' favourite to replace John Terry as skipper at Euro 2012

This week's confirmation that John Terry's trial for alleged racist abuse will take place after the climax of this summer's European Championships, on July 9, leaves the Football Association with a tough decision to make over whether the Chelsea defender will be free to participate for England.

Had the trial been, as expected, before the championships, The FA will have been fully entitled to follow the lead of the Crown Prosecution Service and act appropriately. However, following the delay of the trial, they'll be forced into making a decision on their own.

Whether manager Fabio Capello - who will leave his position as Three Lions boss after this summer's finals in Poland and Ukraine - has any say on a possible ban remains uncertain.

The Italian tactician reinstated Terry as skipper mid-way through England's Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, 12 months after stripping him of the captaincy following allegations surrounding his off-the-field behaviour.

Now there are calls for him to be relinquished of the armband, and his position of authority for a second time ahead of the tournament - surely a sensible step going into a major finals.

But the question that remains is who should step up and replace the current England skipper?

Is Rio Ferdinand in line for a recall? Can Steven Gerrard answer the cry for help? Is Terry's Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard the right man for the job - will he even make the plane this summer? Will Wayne Rooney's bit-part role prevent him from being handed the armband?

In a recently conducted online poll, GiveMeFootball can exclusively reveal that fans have called for Terry to be stripped of the England captaincy, and backed Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard to take over at Euro 2012.

Gerrard scooped over 56 per cent of the 40,000 votes cast, with Terry's club teammate Lampard in second place with 18 per cent. Terry himself received 12 per cent backing, while Ferdinand came in with just eight per cent of the votes.

Rooney came bottom of the pile with four per cent, while the remaining two per cent of voters called for someone else to be given the responsibility of leading out their country at this summer's tournament.

Terry could be relinquished from his role as soon as today, as the Football Association moves to stem the fallout from racism charges levelled against the Chelsea defender.

The FA board is considering standing Terry down as captain, but allowing him to be selected for the national team as a compromise solution to an issue that threatens to overshadow England's Euro 2012 preparations.

The move comes after FA chairman David Bernstein spent yesterday canvassing opinion among board members following the adjournment until after the European Championships of Terry's trial for the alleged racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand.

Bernstein is understood to have found a growing consensus that Terry's position as captain is untenable given the charges and the wider context of a season disturbed by racism controversies.

There have been calls for swift action to be taken, with The FA's position on Terry due to be tested by a friendly against Holland scheduled before the end of the month, and there is a mood at Wembley to act before the weekend.

not only that mate when england do the usual and fail misrably you`ll get all the `this sceptered isle....` types saying he wasnt `inspirational` enough and he hasnt got enough pride in the shirt and he`s no `mooro` or `becks`or he sings the national anthem out of key and all that malarky.
if england play cr@p as they usually do in big tournaments or if the players or even their wives start falling out with each other which is another thing that usually happens then gerrard as captain is going to be the one facing the press as well.
