I blame twit and :censored:...

Mascherano always wanted away eventually.

Alonso was a direct result of bad man management by Benitez.

But I do echo your sentiments that we would be awesome with that team.

Or an indirect result of Alonso's below par form the previous two seasons :;):  :buttrock

we will find out in June when Alonso book comes out, but already we know he dont talk nice about Rafa in it.

Doesn't matter what the book says - we saw the best of Alonso in two seasons - his first and last , inbetween there was a lot of below par stuff , it was those performances that prompted Rafa to look at other options - you have to ask yourself why didn't Xabi play the way he did during the last in the previous seasons .

Anyway it's something been done to death now and is well in the past.

Alonso left because of Benitez.

There is no other story.

Only for those that are so blind that they cannot see .

Rafa does take a lot of blame but so does the player himself and the higher level management .

He was one of my fav's DD but he was far from immune for any blame in the whole incident .

Solely blaming Rafa is the easy way out .

Sh.it - I could have sworn this is the Steve Gerrard thread !!!!

Frankly Rafa should be blamed for everything: The £30m profit we made on Torres was rubbish! The £20m profit on Alonso was just poor poor management! And winning that fkg Champions League trophy was just downright lucky. Rafa you were a right a.rse !!!!

Not wishing them any harm but are they near death and in a lot of pain?

maguskwt wrote:@Benny and JD I was talking about the CL Final. Yes didi stabilized the midfield but Gerrard took it by the scruff of the neck and won it. Yes Rafa made the right tactical changes but Gerrard led on the field. If Maradona almost single-handedly won the 1986 world cup, then Steven Gerrard almost single-handedly won the 2005 Champions League Final. :p

As i said before about the introduction of Hamann, it wasnt actually what Hamann did.. it was what he allowed Gerrard to do. He removed the shackles imposed upon him and the rest is history. Hamann is the water carrier, while Gerrard is the match winner.

What Rafa did in that first half, in not playing a defensive midfielder, was suicidal. To put Gerrard there was akin to playing Didi as an attacking midfielder. It was lunacy, and had Gerrard not unveiled his superman cape in the 2nd half (when he moved into his natural advanced role) and took the game by the scruff of the neck, Rafa would rightly have got savaged. He had seen PSV run at Milan in the semi (the likes of Park ran them ragged) and so he thought he would try similar (playing Kewell), disgarding the 4-2-3-1 that had got us there, but it backfired massively as without a defensive midfielder Kaka had free reign to run riot. Rafa got out of jail bigtime that night.
