Folks, concerning Kenny's methods, has anyone read the following 2 books:

'Moneyball'

or 'Sky's the Limit'

It'll open your eyes to what LFC is trying to emulate/achieve.

Thing is reg can a moneyball based strategy work in England? I agree in theory but I think we need some quality additions who can make an instant impact.

Thanks Reg - nice tip. Weirdly, my brother alerted me to 'Moneyball' a few weeks back (lives in NYC) and said I should check it out to see how our owner's want to operate. Or something like that. I will be having a read. Actually, let's start a f*****g book club. We're not in Europe this year so there's a few spare Wednesday evenings knocking about.

Personally I'm happy with the way we are playing. We are good to watch at least and create plenty of chances, moreso than under our last few managers. There is good fluidity in our attacking play and the attitude in the squad seems right (highlighted by coming from behind to win at the Britannia).

There are weaknesses too. We are squandering too many chances. Our main marksman (Suarez), if he has a weakness, is that he misses too many one-on-ones. Carroll and Kuyt aren't in good goalscoring form either, while our main left and right midfielders (Downing and Henderson) have only one league goal between them. I'm not overly worried though as with the chances we create we'll score most games.

The main problem for me is the defence. Kenny seems to have a liking for Skrtel, who I just don't rate. Agger, as usual, is in and out with injuries, while Carra is looking more than a little dodgy and Coates is still trying to settle. If we had one top class centre half then any of the above (Skrtel apart) would be a more than capable partner, but between them we don't have a good pair.

Our best lineup/formation is still unclear though. With current personnel and everybody fit, my team would probably be...

Coates to me, seems the future. He made a schoolboy error against Stoke and that is exactly what he needed. That boy (bar the mistake) was so solid the other night. To me it's gonna be a Coates/Agger in the middle with the other two doing swaps as well (particulary when Agger is called out left). I dont think the gaffer will throw him in just quite yet but not quite far off.

I'm actually quite excited about the addition of Coates

Positives:
- We're playing a better style of football than we've done for quite some time and the importance of that cannot be emphasized enough.
- He did really well to bring Suarez and Enrique especially given the amount we paid for them.
- Overall, we're bringing out the best in players like Enrique, Suarez, even Skrtel and Agger

Negatives:
- The amount of money Kenny has 'wasted' has been incredible.
- Selling a player like Meireles who has been our best player in the previous season for no obvious reason isnt the smartest thing to do especially given the amount of new unproven players coming into the side. It was a big gamble and so far, it doesnt look like its going to pay off.
- Persisting with under-performing players (Henderson) while better options dont get enough game time (Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi)
- Moving players out of position and repeating the mistake despite them continuing to disappoint (Adam, Downing). Add doing nothing to rectify it to the list too
- Slow to respond to the needs of the game and seems reluctant to use the players on the bench to influence proceedings (ManUtd, Norwich, Swansea games are all examples).

He has built a team in the Blackburn mould that won him the title but at this point its not proving successful.

We move it around ok but too often it goes left and ends in a crossed ball to nothing.

We still lack pace, our game is too slow and predictable. We also lack a conductor in the middle to set the tempo and unlock a defence. All top teams have one of those now, its vital.

Time will tell if Dalglish evolves this team and January is looming. I would like to think that playmaker is high on the list as well as a forward player with real pace. If not, well I doubt much will change frankly.

We don't play a high pressing system, but when we press, we do not push the defensive line nearly high enough. The result is we allow the opponent too much space in MF, which is why teams are able to move the ball on us successfully, incl Brighton!

Today we lacked the craft to open up a Swansea team with modest organization and barely average players. This is a very bad sign!

2ndly we are not strong in possession and are very susceptible to teams pressing high upfield

Then we are lacking a certain kind of player inMF (central MF or wide) with the dynamism to unbalance the opponent esp in 1v1 situations. Downing does not possess that quality, neither does Henderson.

We are not getting better, simply oscillating between good and average.

Just like to say a big HELLO to all the Rafa bashers who ranted he took good players and made them bad and couldn't find the inspiration to get the Reds to beat the smaller clubs.

Deja vu all over again?

Kenny needs to sit down on monday and ask how come Mancini has inspired his motley collection of players to come winners and he cant.

Time is running out before top 4 slips away.

i think if kenny had bought a motley collection such as silva, aguero, balotelli, yaya toure and nasri we would probably be doing much better. instead he has overspent on mediocrity and the results are unsurprising.
