STEVEN GERRARD - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby jimmy brighton » Wed Jun 29, 2011 7:50 pm

Was slightly amused when I read this article in the mirror today;
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes the arrival of Charlie Adam will provide the necessary further competition in the club’s midfield.

Adam’s move is still stalled over Blackpool’s £12million asking price, but Liverpool will not give up on the Scotland international, and they are still negotiating deals for Stewart Downing, Scott Dann and Jose Enrique.

Gerrard said: “We have a lot of good midfielders here. For example, I think Lucas Leiva was our best player last season, but whoever I play with, it’s not a problem.”
Really it's just the last line; "whoever I play with, it’s not a problem."

It's not that I disagree with him about being considered a definite starter but after some of his lack-lustre displays last season and the 'how dare you' attitude he's got towards some of his team mates, I'd have thought that he'd realise he's going to have to fight for his place, along with everyone else, in a very competitive midfield. Also, before I'm lambasted by you all, he's not been the same player for a couple of seasons now, you have to admit.

Having said that, I sincerely hope he does come back after his rest firing on all cylinders and is an important piece in the jigsaw that'll make headway this coming season for a serious push towards honours

I don't think anyone would not have him in the first 11 when you look at the current squad, as captain of Liverpool FC he's guaranteed to start every game. I know it's got a slight cocky edge to it but it's true

I know what you're saying but if we get Adam, then I think it wont be a given that he starts every match. Unless of course he's playing like he used to.
People have short memories and he did indeed take a fair bit of stick off posters on here. Rightfully so. Again, having said that let's do hope we see the Stevie of a couple of seasons ago and not the prima donna he's close to becoming.

Amazes me how people sometimes can slag him off.

The prima donna that was standing with the away fans at Villa

I did say close to becoming. I am referring to the petulance he has shown to his team mates the last couple of seasons. I can understand to a degree if some of the players around you are not up to your standard but throwing strops when things haven't gone your way is bordering on 'prima donna'.
Now we have new owners with a bit of money maybe the standard of player around him will rise up a notch or two and we wont see any of this behaviour. Trust me, I am a big Gerrard fan and just want to see him getting back to his old self

ruled out of the pre-season tour:

not necessarily a bad thing. i'd rather he was given the time to recover fully.

at this rate he wont be fit at the start of the league and it may take half the season before he returns to his best,if he ever does.
massive loss to the squad if he's missing.

Did you actually read the article?  I think this is just precautionary and he'll be ready to go for the season opener.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

wise move in my opinon...he's 90% fit so why risk him for a pointless pre-season tour in the far east?

He'll be fit and ready for our first game and that's the main thing.

yes i read the article and also seen the report on ssn today.
the fact is that he isnt fit at the moment and he could still be in that situation come the match against sunderland, its 50/50 imo and it could be october by the time he's fully fit and firing on all cylinders providing he doesnt have any setbacks in the meantime.

Anyone heard about this rumor going around that Gerrard isn't responding well to the rehab process and there is a mystery surrounding the injury he has?

nope, only going off what he's said himself like. He said it feels like he has a new groin and he feels better than ever

there's always dodgy talk about our Stevie, I trust he'll be playing against Sunderlan until I hear otherwise from either Kenny or Steven himself
