Well, after the mayhem of the last couple of days, my thoughts (for what they're worth) on the Transfer Window and our new owners.
It's clear the owners have money to spend and are willing to spend it. I believe that Suarez and Adam were both big targets before it was known that Torres was leaving.
So, we potentially had £30 million to spend.
As it was, Torres spat his dummy out and changed the picture completely. From looking at Torres and Suarez as the partnership, with the possibility of strengthening midfield and defence, a drastic change of thinking was required and a striker became a priority.
We've lost Babel for 6 million and Torres for 50. Babel has the talent but apart from a few good cameo performances has never really delivered. Torres - well, we all know what happened there.
For 2 million extra, we have Suarez who has a goal scoring record to die for and Carroll, definitely over priced, but with all the skills and potential to be a stunning forward. And he's only 22.
That's good business.
Cash brought in has been spent on the squad, nothing taken out. We were chasing Adam all the way until 11.00pm.
That tells me the original £30 million is still there and will be spent on the team in the summer. A LB and LW is what we need in my opinion. With Carra coming back, Agger fit and with the progress kelly is making (I love this kid), I do not see a CB as an immediate priority.
I think it is clear our owners will spend significantly on the squad over the next 12 to 18 months. With the removal of the debt fears from the H&G days and a solid financial position, owners with a track record of success, two exciting young strikers and the prospect of a new ground or improved Anfield, the next few years look good for me.
I've read some of the negativity on here for the last couple of days and some posts amaze me. Yes we missed out on a couple of transfer targets, but 12 months ago we would have missed them all.
The damage done over the last few years could not have been repaired in 6 months and one transfer window!! We are moving in the right direction though. Get behind Kenny, the owners and the players and support!!
