In the past we would have seen the manager guarantee fourth place and the like, but with Roy we see a different approach. Like most on here, I would prefer to hear a more upbeat message coming from the manager because I see LFC as a huge club and I want to believe that the team can live up those expectations. That has to tempered with a certain amount of realism, though, but perhaps not to the extent Roy's done here. That said, his comments are no basis for judging his performance as manager. They merely provide an insight into his mindset and point to what might be an actual weakness in terms of his ability to motivate the team. But since they don't represent the full extent of his interaction with his players, you'd be a fool to conclude too much from it.

The voice of reason.

Sorry, but His Comment's Are THE VERY BASIS for Judging him as a Manager!

They Are In Poor Judgment at Best, Defeatest on the Whole, Chr1st every Premiership Manager must be rubbing their hands in glee at the propect of us playing them at their place, here we go they'll say We're playing the Surrender Monkey's this week, "What give's you that idea"?, I Don't know maybe it's Roy's mindset!

If as you suspect he can't motivate the team, then as Shank's once said, he's a Bl00dy Menace he should go and be an MP!

I actually wonder myself what the full extent of his interaction with the Players is, whatever it is, it is patently NOT working, i put it to you that you'd have to be a FOOL to conclude otherwise!

Sorry mate but you're talking a load of bollox there. The results are THE VERY BASIS for judging him as a manager, not his soundbites. That's a ridiculous notion to come out with, fair enough you don't like or rate the bloke but that doesn't give you the right to talk shit about him just to skew opinions.

Roy may need a gagging order put in place but some of our Geordie fans could do with a gag in their gob too.

Not a big fan of Roy's soundbites though im not going pour over every word uttered and come out with a defeatist conspriacy

Cant say that pre match spurs interview worries me too much, depending on your view of man.
He be damned as defeatist or damned as being too cocky and not in touch with reality if he comes out all guns firing.
I took more umbrage at his comments earlier in season with Torres/ManU claims/ManC interest if truth be known.

First and foremost you look at the results of the team as against the resources the manager has at his disposal and from there you judge whether he's been good enough. If after that you've decided he doesn't meet the required standard, then you can ask why that might be the case by scrutinising his methodology, a part of which is the way he interacts with his players. An insight into that aspect of the job might be gleaned from his comments to the press, but to base your analysis around such a limited piece of information doesn't seem very wise to me.

Did Roy not inherit the squad that was subject to T&T's spending constraints?

Very strange all of this.

Na, it's just Benitez taking all the stick for all the poor performances and the draws and defeats. Nothing to do with those two.

The trouble is that it's the truth. Roy inherited the squad that was subject to the spending constraints Rafa endured under T&T. Difference is, whereas some people used said spending constraints to absolve Rafa of any real blame for the state of the squad and the performance of the team, they don't even mention it now, it's as if "underinvestment? you must be having a laugh. It's Roy, innit. Look 'ere he signed Poulsen and Konchesky, FML".

This is all games played in the glaring lights of the media.  I admit its not what I really like, but the over reaction on this forum is amazing. Lets just see what happens on Sunday.

People who are old enough will remember how Bob Paisley would always talk up the opposition and even after we had given a team a good thrashing he would say how unlucky they were.  Now Roy doesnt do it in as much style as Bob (nobody could) but it worked.

As Pepe has been saying in the press today, get off Roys back and give him your support.. its kind of our job, as supporters!

He's not Paisley though is here fella ...not by any wildest stretch of the imagination is he in any respect similar .... neither should his name be  used in the same sentence with such a humble gentleman ,and without doubt the most successful manager in Liverpool's glorious history  ............. seriously if you want your posts to have a grain of credibility ,stop using absolute legends to compare with the current incumbent ....we will support the team Lad but as for Hodgson he's on his own ....

You have kind of missed the point...
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

It's not so much the fact that he bought Poulsen and Konchesky due to spending constraints, it's the fact that he didn't need to spend the money on those two.

see i had this wrong, it was my understanding that the board had given him a list of players they could by, he just had to pick the best, we dont know what other names where on the list.

But he did. He had to replace Mascherano and it was agreed on here before Roys appointment we needed a left back.

Roy is talking as if he is still managing a small team like Fulham, when you manage LFC you should give interviews with an air of superiority whilst still being respectfull.
The current results don't matter we are still, and always will be, a top team!

Good call. As last season Roy was in charge of a team of a team that was outside a champions league spot and in charge of a team that made the UEFA cup final.

Oh wait...
