For me Ciggy's post is fair enough, but it illustrates how people allow the ownership issue to overtake everything else IMHO. I will say at this point, yet again, that the owners are c...s and we all know it. That said, it wasn't the owners fault we finished seventh last season, nor was it the owners fault that the last two 20 million pound players we bought were nowhere near good enough. It would be lovely if they splashed the cash more than they do, but lets face it until the two c...s are long gone it isn't going to happen.
I do think however that in the meantime we have to make the best of it, the manager has to make the best of it. Rafa patently wasn't doing that (and he wasn't, come on lets be serious here) so I think it's legitimate to seek a replacement, and it makes sense to get somebody in who both understands English football, and who has a track record in both dealing with a crisis, AND in making less expensive players over achieve. This is where Roy comes in.
Now to the crux. It isn't Roys fault that the owners sacked Rafa, it isn't Roys fault that Rafa lost the plot, and it isn't Roys fault that the owners and Purslow/Broughton appointed him. He's got the job (rightly IMHO) and now he's got it he's barely put a foot wrong. Those who said Gerrard and Torres would leave have been proven wrong, those who said good players wouldn't come to us have been proven wrong, those who said he would be a yes man have been wrong, and those who said he wouldn't be any good in Europe likewise.
People are fully entitled to not like him, not trust him, not rate him, take the p!ss out of the way he speaks, where he holidays, how he dresses, how old he is, what his record is like, dismiss his achievements and all that. I don't particularly like it, but they are fully etitled to their opinion. All I ask though is that we try our best avoid such nonsense as Benny was giing it yesterday "he HAS to get it right over the next two matches". He's only been in charge for three league games FFS, and already some numpties are throwing their toys out of the pram. Don't rate him if you feel that way inclined based on his record, but to not rate him based on three league games (which we haven't done too badly in) is just plain bonkers.
People moaned about me moaning about Benitez, but I gave him three and a half seasons before I started getting twitchy, not three and a half weeks.
