Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Am I the only one worried about the lateness of his substitutions as well? The pure average is 74th-75th minute for all 16 so far, but the breakdown and match by match is more worrying

First half/half-time : 1
45-59 mins : 0
60-69 mins : 3
70-79 mins : 7
80-89 mins : 5

50% of his substitutions are into the last 15 mins, all but two (87.5%) are in or after the 66th minute. Of course these can depend on scenario so here they are :

vs Rabotnicki (a) W2-0 : 72, 83 and 84 = 2-0 up after 59 mins
vs Rabotnicki (h) W2-0 : 62, 67 and 73 = 4-0 up on aggregate after 40 mins which explains why they were so relatively early
vs Arsenal (h) D1-1 : 66, 74 and 79 = 1-0 up and down to 10 men at the time
vs Trabzonspor (h) W1-0 : 45 and 73 = 1-0 up after 45 mins
vs Man City (a) L0-3 : 78 and 86 = 0-3 down after 68 mins, made no subs before then and only two total
vs Trabzonspor (a) W2-1 : 77, 86 and 89 = heading for extra time after just four mins, waited 73 minutes after that to make a substitution and the clincher came six mins after that substitution (1-1 on the night, 2-1 on aggregate so the Turks would have had to score twice as 2-2 sent us through on away goals)

So it's not just the statistics that worry me, it is the lack of apparent awareness to the situation. Every man and his guide dog could see it wasn't working at COMS, yet Rafa must have left his guide dog at home!

ONly Reina,Agger (as CB), skrtel, SG, Cole, Torres are good enough in my view. The rest are a mix of the okay and the not good enough. Not much return for hundreds of millions the last manager spent and I expect there is not much money left for Roy.

If Roy can get a stable squad going and end the revolving door mentality it will be a start

Once the transfer windows closes, I will be 100% behind Roy. I will be critical of him until then because I want to see more quality players come in, thinking he isn't doing enough. I'm sure he is, though, and when the transfer window is closed, we have to get behind Roy and the team even if we think the squad isn't strong enough. I was 100% behind Benitez in his first 5 seasons.

Roy Hodgson has just said that he is still looking to bring in one more player before the window closes - a striker

Better than the team he had at Fulham ffs, how about pointing the finger at the Yanks instead of rafa that Roy has no money. Jesus Christ  :no

Either the player aren't gelling yet through lack of fitness or Hodgson doesn't know how to get the best out of them. Either way as I see it its 50/50 as to whether Hodgson will be boss by May next May.

we're pointing at both... The yanks more obviously, but some of the buys we have had under Rafa were laughable.. but... back on topic :D

when you consider that our manager CAN SPEND everything he receives in through transfers, just imagine how better things would be if we had SOLD Aquilani.

I;m still made up with the win and the signing of  Raul Meireles  :D

Juve has an option to buy @ around 13 mil., but I doubt it happens.  At best we've lost 7 mil on a player who's barely played for us.

Hodgson on Liverpool's priorities this season Liverpool Echo 6/9/10

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that his main task is to keep the squad together until new owners take over the club and give him money to spend on new players.

The future ownership of the Reds is as uncertain as ever despite a fortnight of intense activity last month that still failed to see a proper bid for the club materialise.

For Hodgson, who took over from Rafael Benitez in July and was then forced to sell Javier Mascherano to Barcelona, his main aim has been to avoid having to rebuild the playing squad completely.

Hodgson told the LMA’s magazine The Manager: “The club is up for sale and nobody knows what direction it will take if and when new owners are found.

“A few years ago when the situation was far more stable, the money to buy new players was available.

“I hope the situation will change when the club is eventually sold and owners who are prepared to invest in the club come in.

“When that situation arises I’m pretty sure that it won’t be difficult for us to start achieving things again but at the moment the task is really to hang on to the players we’ve got and make certain we don’t have a situation where we have got a total rebuilding process.”
Hodgson insists however that Liverpool can achieve success and he will not attempt to dampen fans’ expectations.

“The stature, traditions and ability of Liverpool to attract players certainly makes it an achievable task even though we are in strange times,” he said.

“You should never try and dampen people’s enthusiasm and optimism.

“Furthermore every season we see teams not expected to win titles winning them.

“It doesn’t always go to the favourite in any country.

“So we should never play down the Liverpool fans’ incredible desire and passion to keep winning trophies - and the Barclays Premier League in particular - and keep their noses in front of Manchester United.

I think its a delivery of another fine speech by the manager ..... so  now can we go and put this into practice starting with Birmingham Away ,because if we put in yet another disjointed display Birmingham and their ilk will be exactly  the type of team only too ready to capitalize on any lethargy or carelessness .....3 points please Roy

I think it sounds like Roy believes he'll be given the push for a more high profile manager once the club is sold unless he pulls off some surprises in the trophy hunt.
