IMO he gave us a very good option and would of played a lot of games and unless we get a replacement for him IMO it's a wrong decision to get rid of him .

Just throwing away a player with great offensive upside and a full preseason under his belt is madness when looking at the alternatives at cm. Masch, Poulsen, Lucas....
dm, dm, dm... so damn negative and will never work.
That is deploying an "afraid to loose mentality"!
There's defensive midfielders, and there's defensive midfielders. Alonso is a defensive midfielder, but he can pass it. Masherano is a defensive midfielder, and he can't. Lucas is kind of a defensive midfielder, and he can't. Poulsen is a defensive midfielder, and he can.
It's about combinations of players. Gerrard and Poulsen in midfield is massively more attacking than the Lucas/Masherano axis. You'll see it this season, with those two we'll be a good team.

I think it's looked that way so far this season Benny. Lucas/ Poulsen in the holding position, Stevie with more license to get forward and Cole in the hole, linking with Torres, Jova and Kuyt. We've discussed this several times before on Newkit and my issue with this is we loose the Gerrard-Torres partnership and the goals that come with it. The 4-4-2 change for tonight may indicate Hodgson's longer term plan to switch to this formation, which I understand he's favoured in the past. Again, I prefer a 4-5-1 variant, especially away from home, all day long.
