Early team news from Old Trafford sees defender Joel Matip withdrawn from the Liverpool squad.

The 25-year-old had not been included in Cameroon's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations and the federation have failed to confirm whether he is available to play for the Reds.

"We will continue to work for a speedy and unambiguous resolution," Liverpool said in a statement.

WTF?

Liverpool have withdrawn Joel Matip from their squad to face Manchester United because they are unsure about the centre-back's international clearance.

Matip, 25, was named in Cameroon's preliminary squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations, but said he did not want to play in the tournament.

He was not in the final 23-man squad, but the Reds said they "continue to seek clarity" from Fifa about his availability.

Rumour Clynes out too with Trent coming in, rookie cover for a game of this magnitude, hopefully its BS.

Fed up of the AFCON taking place mid-season. First Mane is away and now this nonsense with Matip. Has to be a better solution

That Man City defense just looks so weak. Control their attacking play and not get over run by them (not an easy job) and they will always give you chances at the back

It's true. Couts on the bench but Hendo starts

Well at least Hendo is here. Not a popular opinion but I think he's been one of our most important players this season. Klopp has utilized him to a maximum.

Anyway, we won't be 5th even if we lose now, thanks to the bitters. Or rather thanks to that awful defence Man City has. They have the worse defence among the top 6 and that's with us in competition!

Agree. Hendo has his limitations but you know he will run his heart out, put his foot in and move the ball quickly to the forward players. He is very important to us and really happy he had made it today

Wow, just seen our team, wouldn't surprise me if we got our @rses kicked here. We haven't got the best of records at Old Trafford even when we turn up with our best XI never mind a scratch outfit like this.

How can they not know about Matip's eligibility; I mean this has been going on for months!!!

This is amateurish to say the least!
Floyd stepped left and threw the hook that caught Hatton flush under the chin. Finally, the British champ had arrived in that mythical place of which his fans speak: Hatton Wonderland.

Come on Yakka !! Let's have a bit of positivity mate. It won't be easy but we have still got enough of a team to cause them problems and a bench with Coutinho and Sturridge on could make the last 20 minutes very interesting.

Everton have done their bit thrashing City now it's up to us !!

Sometimes our best performances are reserved for occassion's when we least expect it but it has to be said that team looks weaker than the one we started the Southampton game with (and that should have been 4-0  :lookaround )
