Why don't the fans protest these sort of things? 36 000 out of 90 000 going to real fans. It makes me want to womit.

Think the Fa are turning the FA cup into a nothing cup.

The kick off is driven by tv demand and the global audience, namely Asia.

If that were true KO would be earlier than 5:15pm re Asia.

5pm KO allows both China and US to watch it.

It is at 5:15 because there is prem games happening at 3pm and you arent allowed to televise games at 3pm whilst the prem season is active and they are still playing games.

That sounds more like a viable reason than the US and China one.

yeah thats the reason why, there`s a lot of politics involved between the f.a and the premier league.
for well over a century the f.a ran footy in this country, they ran it at all levels, from alehouse footy on the parks (ran by the county f.a`s who were ran by the f.a) right through to the old first division (now the prem) and the england team. whenever the f.a made money they spread it through all levels of the game, the gate reciepts at a f.a cup final helped pay the expenses of a ref running a game on stanley park.
the big clubs (including us sadly) didnt like that and wanted to keep the money at the top end of the game, their argument was that the people are paying to watch the big clubs so the big clubs should keep the money. the f.a disagreed and a power struggle ensued, 4 or 5 breakaway clubs (liverpool, united, everton, spurs etc) convinced the rest of the clubs in the first division to form their own league and the prem came into existence.
so now you have 2 governing bodies in england, the prem which runs the top division and the f.a which runs everything else, the problem for the f.a is that the premier league run the part of the game that generates all the money. obviously the 2 governing bodies are locked in a power battle to see who runs the game in england.
the premier league wants to lessen the power of the f.a and one way of doing it is to turn the f.a cup into a minor sideshow, the f.a cup is jewel in the f.a`s the crown and the prem have set out to reduce it`s appeal, for instance a while back the prem held league games after the f.a cup final which stopped the f.a cup having the prestige of being the last game of the domestic season and now they are playing games on the same day, in the past the country stopped for the f.a cup final and by playing games on the same day the prem are basically saying `it`s no big deal`
the f.a are a bunch of old, elitist, establishment, tory *****`s but for all their terrible decisions i do believe they have the best interests of the game at heart, the premier league are just a money making machine, you only had to look at that proposed `game 39` to see how much they care about footy, they were prepared to turn the league into a lottery and a farce for a extra few quid.
i`m gutted liverpool were a major player in the prem being set up, it`s no surprise that the idea of the premier league occured during the late 80`s when thatcher was in power, the formation of the premier league was thatcherism applied to football, the ones at the top rake all the money in and f**k everybody else.

Fook me , she gets blamed for everything, its called supply and demand, I think you will find that commercialisation of sporting events goes back way before Thatcher and the EPL was inevitable especially with the advent of pay per view telly

His post was a good explanation as to why the FA cup is rivaled by the Prem but the last two lines were desperate pitches to have a dig at the old moo. I mean, it probably had f.uck all to do with her; and coincided with the fact that the "f.a are a bunch of old, elitist, establishment, tory ****'s", it's clear here, that no matter whether Thatcher and her party were involved with either the Prem being established or the FA being accused of being tory ****'s that they were always on a hiding to nothing. So, I'd digest most of that post and take the last two lines with a pinch of salt.

of course it was thatcherism, sounds like you werent even there, at the time everything that wasnt nailed down was being sold off ( british gas, british steel, british telecom, the water board, the electricity board, council houses, the airports, the ports and docks.....i mean everything) and at the same time a `entrepreneur` called irving scholar and a mate of his who was a property developer bought spurs from the family who had owned the club for donkeys years and straight away floated it on the stock exchange. spurs were the first football club in the whole world to be floated on the stock exchange.
up to that point football clubs had been run by family dynasty`s but suddenly the city slickers moved in and treated clubs in the same way they treated the nationalised industries. what happened to spurs was happening everywhere in britiain because of thatchers policies.
the premier league started in the early 90`s but all the work happened in the 80`s, thatcherism was all about a me, me, me type attitude, i remember one of her lackeys saying unemployment in the north is a price worth paying for prosperity in the south and that was the general sentiment in business at the time, there was no time for `losers` in thatchers new dynamic britain. it was in that environment that the big clubs decided to ditch the rest of the league clubs.

yeah he`ll probably send about 3 of our players off and give chelsea about 5 pens after i`ve said this but i think dowd and halsey are the two best refs in the league.

A further nail in the coffin that is the beutiful game ! :glare:

The FA Cup used to be the single most important game of the season until around the time defending Cup holders Man Spew withdrew in order to play in the money spinning and ill conceived World Club Championship !

Now even Virgin can't be arsed to run trains even when their guaranteed to be full !

Whats so difficult about playing the FA Cup Final on the 19th May ?

I can't think of any other entertainment industry whereby the people who fund a large portion of its income (fans) are treated so poorly in terms of quality of service. Whether it's ticket selling arrangements (£28 Admin fee for a CL Final Ticket), availability of valid tickets ( a fraction going to genuine fans of each of the teams in the final) or the messing around of the Kick Off time (how long before we KO at 11am Tuesday morning because China is open at that time ? )

Its only a cpative market if we allow ourselves to be prisoners !  :glare:

I remember LFC Fans boycotting the 1996 Semi Final on account of the extortinate ticket prices at that time. Castle Greyskull was half empty and the FA shat themselves and increased the allocation for the final.

I will be interested to see what SOS have to say on this debacle and would favour a mass boycott.

Unlesss football fans make a stand and soon, we will slip down the commercial road to ruin and the game will pale into insignificance as the FA, UEFA, FIFA and SKY shaft us even more.

btw...............any spares going ?  :rasp
