Wednesday international friendlies - Why god? why?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JoeTerp » Thu Aug 06, 2009 11:22 pm

Doesn't seem to be getting much play, but everybody and their mother is playing an international friendly on Wednesday. At least we get an extra day of rest and don't have to play until Sunday. Still, a major pain. Spurs will have an advantage in that almost all of their English players are not likely to feature, or at least I don't expect them to (don't really keep up with England).  One bonus is that I believe nobody had to leave Europe.

Yeah but that attitude is why we'll never win the world cup again, because we dont care.

On this occaision I agree, this is a pointless friendly and will prove nothing. It doesn't matter how we perform against the dutch in a friendly, it may matter if we draw them in South Africa and then I bet this friendly's result and performances will count for little.

It's even more pointless given it is in Holland, since most of the dutch side ply their trade in the top three leagues in Europe rather than eredivise couldn't they at least have had it at Wembley?

EDIT : I went to check it is in Holland and this is interesting :

Never buy from PC World, product quality is poor and their 'customer service' is even poorer

I agree the friendlies are a waste of time but the Norway Scots game aint a friendly its a qualifier. The SFA did try to get it back to in-season but to no avail. Need a damn good result to make 2nd place, and I may be mistaken, tho I dont think so, no players from our game are involved so I expect a full bloodied encounter with bandages and splints bein required by the norwegians after a famous Scots victory!! That an I'v got me tickets for Macedonia and Holland an I really want those games to mean somethin when we play em!!

Friendlies are a joke tho.
Stu Averill, a wannabe Scouse/Scot. I remember the good times & have faith in them comin back

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Norway is going to kick Scotland's :censored:, I've got tickets for the game, really looking forward to it. I agree that friendlies are a bit :censored:, but playing a very in form Holland should be a good test for England, plus it's another competitive pre-season game for the lads so where's the harm?

Well, at least he only has to go as far as Moscow. :)  Are Spain not involved in a friendly?  Lovely if true.

Don't all these players fly first class, not really too much of a hardship for them is it. It's probably better for them to be sat on a plane talking football with their colleagues rather than sat in a boozer practising their right hooks  :D

Well hopefully these will give our lads a chance to get a decent run out before Sunday. Lets hope that we dont pick up any injuries.

One of Torres, Johnson or Gerrard will get crocked. It's almost inevitable.

Absolute farce having a friendly a few days before the premiership kicks off. At least we've got an extra day to recover i suppose.
