Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Carragher welcomes Coates:

Carragher was also pleased to see the defence reinforced with the arrival of 6' 6" Uruguay centre-back Sebastian Coates, who impressed during this summer's Copa America.

"I haven't seen a lot of him but I think he got young player of the tournament," the veteran centre-back said. "That shows he's got great quality and I think it's going to be a great addition to the squad. You can't think of yourself, you have to think of the club.

"One centre-back (Sotirios Krygiakos) went so we needed another. Time will tell how good the lad is but his pedigree looks fantastic. He's probably been brought up playing a different type of football than I have, a South American style - so maybe I can learn from him as well.

"It's not always about the older players helping the younger - it can work vice-versa. You're always learning from different people."

Classy comments from Carragher here - no pressure, telling him he has a fight on his hands to get into the squad, but certainly making him welcome. If Coates can teach Carragher how to bring the ball out of defence I think we'll all be impressed! :p
"Life is not just about money. There are other things, important things that have a different kind of value. Anyone from Liverpool could tell you that."

If he's 6'6", how tall is Comolli? Because he doesn't look much taller than Comolli...  ???

Maybe he's hunching or something, certainly looks tall in the photos that were put on the offal, it can be deceiving Iguess

I saw a pic of De Gea standing next to Michael Carrick and I swear Carrick was taller...

From what Clarke says, he might slot right in.  He might be the signing of the Summer long term.  CB has needed addressing since Sami and he's never been properly replaced, here's hoping......

spudz would be a good game for him to start.
carra needs dropping and hopefully he can partner agger if he doesnt suffer any repercussions from the clash of heads today.
hopefully can get to see what impact he has on our play.

the ability to play the ball out of defence would be a good place to start

one of the few positives...dropped in at the deep end today and slotted in right away. Needs to work on his distribution, but a good start.
