Fecks sake Dazzer just post about football fella. You can't have a row with every single person on the forum simultaneously, it just isn't possible. Pull your head in and read for a bit if you find people are getting on top of you a bit, but you can't keep littering threads with innumerable spats, it's going too far.

If you really must, just pick two people and have a row with them. Preferably pick two people who are usually on the forum at the same time, that way when they're not on at least you can chill out a bit and the rest of us can have a bit of a break.

Excuses......excuses.........excuses ...........Benitez is just looking for f@ckin excuses.  :no

Do you ppl understand what he is saying ? How the f@ck can the hippies still defend benitez.....

LFC is one of the biggest clubs in the world...do you think someone with this type of mentality (coming close) is good enough to MANAGE this club ? Yeah...and i am sure real madrid will be up his alley with that kind of thinking... :p

He should go at the end of this season....(If purslow can somehow get mourinho...then hey...... benitez can go anytime)

Why is it that when other managers say things like that it's "What a brilliant man-manager, taking the pressure of the players", yet when Rafa does it it's "excuses" or "wrong mentality"?

Idiot.

HI Guys not sure whether this article from goal.com has been posted, I just like to shout it out :

Ronnie Whelan believes Rafael Benitez's desire to replicate his Champions League success of 2005 will be the undoing of his Liverpool tenure.

Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Fulham leaves the Reds nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea, maintaining their 'Jekyll and Hyde' run following last weekend's win over Manchester United.

Already missing Steven Gerrard through injury, Benitez rested several key players and started the likes of Andriy Voronin, Philipp Degen and Sotiris Kyrgiakos at Craven Cottage.

And Whelan - who won the 1983-84 European Cup amid a medal-strewn playing career at Anfield - reckons the early substitution of goal-scorer Fernando Torres confirmed Benitez's mindset.

"He showed me that he wants to win the Champions League and that's all he cares about - because of the team he picked," said the Irishman on RTE's 'Premier Soccer Saturday'.

"He's taken players off who are the only players who are going to give you a chance of winning the game. And he drags them all off because he's got a game on Wednesday.

"He's putting all his eggs in one basket. If he loses in Lyon, he probably won't qualify for the Champions League knockout stages. So, he's out of the Champions League, he's not going to win the Premier League anyway - so he's messed up completely."

Furthermore, Whelan believes Benitez's focus on Europe indicates a desire to improve his standing on the continent should his time on Merseyside be cut short.

"It's all gone wrong with the manager. He's shown exactly where his priorities lie," he said.

"He wants to win the European Cup. He wants to be the man who wins the European Cup so he can get a job anywhere in Europe.

"I think after winning the European Cup with Liverpool he will get a job in Europe anyway but, for me, now, his days have got to be numbered at Liverpool."

Masch, Torres, Pepe would all be at risk in my eyes.

Oh, no - none of them are here because of the gaffer - not one!

Don't you know? Mascher wants out anyway (yet Rafa made him stay, thereby keeping him at the club), Torres didn't join to worjk with Rafa and neither did Reina!

No, if Fat Sam comes in they'll all basque in his managerial glory...

I can't for the life of me see the sense in using our suggested lack of spending to defend Rafa's signing the likes of Babel, Lucas, Dossena, Keane, Ngog, Voronin (wages/space), Degen (ditto). I'm only using it up to the point of challenging the suggestion (implied, perhaps) that everything was a level playing field for Rafa when he arrived - there was some gap to make up in terms of quality on the other three. To that extent, it explains partially why I wouldn't have expected us to have a much better squad than the Manc's at the time (two years ago) i.e. to counter the idea that "we've spent more 'net' during this period than they have so why don't we have a much better squad by comparison?"
In the extreme it would be like arguing that Fulham ought to have challenged for the league if they'd spent 'net' the same amount as the Manc's in the four years since 04/05. My gripe is that since then, we've made very costly errors in the market - we've spent another £45m+ or whatever it is, with more or less nil effect. That is, at the present moment I would expect us to have a squad if not on, then almost on a par with the Manc's and a first team at least as good, but probably better. Thus, the money for Dossena might have solved our LB problem leaving Aurelio and Insua as back up, or it might have been spent elsewhere curing our lack of actual depth. Instead of Lucas we might have Bullard, even Cattermole. Instead of Babel we might have had our Riera type player earlier, instead of Keane we might have had Arshavin. At least three out of those four should have been good buys and I think that would've made a big difference to our squad strength and hence our ability to challenge.

Even I can agree with this...... well most of it  :D

Ciggy, I watched that interview with Ronnie Whelan the other night, and much as he bores me to tears at the best of times, I have to say he made a lot of valid observations. Not just after the Fulham fiasco, but going back over the years.
He's never pulled any punches about what he thinks of certain managers and clubs and players, and this time I agree with him at least for the most part. I doubt Rafa could be naive enough to think that a miraculous chain of events will conspire to lead him to the Champions League Cup this year, and that by doing that he will become the most cherished manager in Europe. Hell, I reckon Real Madrid fans would protest in their tens of thousands if he became manager there....
But there's no question that the decisions to take off those three on Saturday, to start with Voronin on the pitch (or to give him even sight of a pitch to start with), to start with Kyrgiakos (who is quite simply awful), to persist with Lucas and Masch in the centre of the park.....is just wrong, wrong, wrong....
Furthermore, I fully back Whelan's criticisms of the pure and utter trip Rafa has signed over the years. I know there's a list somewhere here on the forum of all the players he has signed and released in the 5 tortuous years he has been here, but maybe 1 or 2 of them are playing at the top of the game. The rest - and you can name them just as easily as I can - were a waste of time, money, effort, prevented any decent talent making a breakthrough, and were just not good enough...
On THAT, I agree with Whelan wholeheartedly...

This was him as an after-dinner speaker a few years back.
Banged on and on about how much he loved Man Utd and wished he'd played for them. At first, it was just a bit of a wind-up but it got boring very quickly.
Said he was made up to score the own goal at Old Trafford 'cos he'd always dreamed of scoring at the Stretford End.
He then hoped we'd get home OK in case someone had stolen the wheels of our cars.

Whelan is a manc loving tw@t end of !!!!

That post is right up there with most of Dazzer's gems, Ciggy...
Whelan is more correctly a fan of good football, and sadly in recent years, we have hardly ever played kwalitee football, for the most part because of the trip Rafa has signed. As much as I hate to say it, sometimes the Manc scum actually DO play a decent type of football, Arsenal too. Our infrequent half-decent displays of footie are so far and few between, it often makes me want to cry :(
Lucas, Voronin, Babel......not one of them capable of a footie clip you'd want to see again and again....

And before you suggest otherwise, I am as big a LFC fan as the next guy
