Whilst we are toying with the impossible I may as well throw in Jack Wilshire for good measure.  :D We were after him before them as well ffs.

With regards to Ryan Babel if were not gonna use him why didnt we accept the 10mil offered by Birmingham City? while he is still our player he should be in the team ahead of the likes of rubbish like Degan and N'gog

its not really positive times at the moment is it  :( anyway i'll always give credit to the players who deserve it, see Pepe's thread for e.g. what do u want me to say anyway ? just close my eyes and pretend every players word class  anyway back to Babel, he's not being used so why keep him? we got a £10mil offer, which if were honest he isnt worth, so lets take it while its still there. Id still rate him as easily better than Degen, and N'gog. The rumours of him going to Arsenal are rubbish anyway its from The people, hardly reputable

Are you off your nut mate? Walcott is a class player and has run our players ragged on more than 1 occasion. CL QF not to mention that 4-4 at home in the league.

And you want us to take a striker who spends half the season on the bench?  :D RVP is a sicknote, a sicknote who just signed a new contract.

Two is more than one, so you mentioned two examples! :D

He was poor against Stoke, so bad I reckon it could have been Babel. RVP does more inbetween injuries than Walcott ever has, if I recall correctly his fee included add-ons and I reckon Arsenal would feel hard done by if he ever triggers those clauses.

Not sure I'd want Fran Merida, certainly not if we have to pay a fee via a tribunal. I thought (up to) £6.5m for Sturridge was a bit steep, he might be worth that on the market in a year or so, but did the club really put so much into his development ie how much of it is nature and how much nurture?

I heard that the club accepted the offer, its Babel that doesnt want to go
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

why is this guy still here and not been giving football.
imo take the money or play him, one or the other.
i know he's had his problems with management and players but i feel for this guy when he has to sit on the bench and watch the dire drab that repeats itself week in week out.
£10mil was a great price for him and could have been used to bring something better to bolster this season.
my thoughts are if you have no use in something and want to sell it,ffs then "advertise it".if you don't then start playing with it again!!
last nights game was so bad to watch and i find it hard to believe that with babel playing we could have been any worse:(.

Skysports:

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez believes Ryan Babel can shine at Anfield now the transfer window is closed.

Babel's future at Liverpool was the subject of intense speculation during the January transfer window with Birmingham having a couple of bids rejected for the Dutchman.

Benitez believes Babel's form was affected by the speculation and he now feels the former Ajax man can show his true ability for the rest of the campaign.

"If we play without the speculation surrounding Ryan Babel then I am sure it will be easier for him to focus and for me to play him," explained Benitez.

"So I think we will be better in attack and the team will be better."

Injuries
Benitez also revealed that Fernando Torres and Glen Johnson are not expected to return to action until March at the earliest.

"Glen is still progressing," added Benitez. "It's looking like he will be back in another three or four weeks. When he was first ruled out, it looked like he would be out for two months and it has been a month so far.

"Fernando is progressing too. Hopefully he will be back in the same time, while Yossi [Benayoun] could return in two weeks."

I wonder how many millions babel has earned whilst all the `speculation` has gone on and Rafa shunned him. Who's laughing in the end?

I would give him a run of 4 5 games and see what he can do because he can't be any worse than Ngog and with that much needed spot in the Dutch National team he might start playing.

Does that mean he's going to actually PLAY BABEL......................?!?! The only positions Rafa is likely to play him in are left side and CF, very occaisionally he plays on the right. This season Babel has not had much chance, N'Gog has played four minutes short of twice as long

BABEL (LIVERPOOL)

07/08 : 49 apps, 2565 mins, 10 goals. (27 x 60+ mins)
08/09 : 42 apps, 1672 mins, 4 goals. (9 x 60+ mins)
09/10 : 17 apps, 593 mins, 3 goals (5 x 60+ mins)

He's gone from 52 mins per appearance to 40 down to 35. I find Rafa's comments rather bemusing, he's hardly given him a game this season (around 6.5 x ninety minutes worth of playing time) and 'now' he's saying he can shine!!! Last time he had a full 90 mins was in the Carling Cup back in OCTOBER, he's played 150 mins in seven appearances since.

Should he get a chance ahead of N'Gog? I think he is an alternative, whether he's better is debatable. I'd say he could be better used, I'm guessing there's more chance defenders will be worried by Babel running at them than N'Gog, even if it ends in nothing.

The only way Babel will shine under Rafa is by doing his shoes at HT.

This summer the team could be under new management, Babel should get his chance then.
