Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Great news, he’s got at least 1 more season at the highest level. If not 2.

VVD will hopefully be next.

There wasn't really a choice if they could renew as the owners would never pay what replacement would cost.
Length is everything as 3 years is too long but 2 years is fine. Once his body start showing signs it will get ugly fast.

He could stay at Liverpool and still go to Saudi for big money in a couple of years. What it brings is a little stability so for that we should be happy.

Good news. It wasn't the right time to let him go, we simply don't have a replacement in line and also have other areas that will need strengthening this summer. I don't think we held him on for too long because without him we might not have been just a few games away from winning the title this season right now. Plus, he got a 2 year contract so we could still probably sell him after next season lol, at least for some 30-40 million.

Anyway, couldn't find any details about the contract apart from that it's gonna be a 2 year extension. Is it just 2 years without a club option for an additional year?  And what sort of money is he gonna be getting?

No official details, but reported he hasn’t taken a pay cut. So at least £350k a week, but probably over £400k for the new deal

Great news, hopefully this will fire him up to finish the season strong now.

Could've gone on free with a nice signing on fee. Fair play to Salah. Just hope we could get atleast one quality attacker to play uptop with him next season.

£20 million a year. I can't get excited about paying him £400,000 a WEEK when that represents 10 YEARS wages for the  majority of folks watching the game.

Nice he signed but the greed is sickening.

Agreed Reg but you yourself said it would simply cost us a lot more to sign someone new. I think he's getting "only" a £5m annual raise, which is far cheaper than signing someone for £60-80m and paying him £10m a season.

As crazy as the money is it is about value, and I don’t mean value on the playing field I mean value to LFC in terms business. He gets people to watch which then translates to advertising revenue, he gets people to come to matches and he gets people to buy shirts and merchandising. It’s all about value and he probably earns that salary by making much more for the club. It’s not about sport, it’s about business.

I own a kids sports club and have done for 25 years. When I first started it was all ManUre shirts I saw, later it was Chelsea shirts, then Man City. I’ve seen so many Liverpool and specifically Salah shirts in the last period (since Klopp) so I see visually the effect that Salah has. I do prefer forward growth for the club though and this is a short term solution, so I do feel we need the future gen striker and having Salah at the club probably will affect that and slow the progress, but in terms of earning his keep I think he does and the club profits from him despite the salary. Someone should do a study to see his money value to the club, it would be interesting to see the amount.

Slot is gonna have to show how big his balls are now we have Isak and rotate Salah to preserve him a bit. He's looked a bit slow recent games.

What is happening with Salah? Hes been consistently poor since Ramadan which finished in March. Just read a stat where he's only completed 1 dribble in the Premier league this season. The ball is bouncing off of him, his passing is all over the place.. he looks a shadow of the Salah we all know.

It’s always tough having legends degrade while still at the team, he’s produced so many moments of brilliance for us. Same with Gerrard when he was playing at the end, we wanted him sold because everyone could see he was not the same player but we’re conflicted because of all the good times he brought to the club.

We should have sold Mo a year ago and cashed in, more so because of this than getting the money. Salah is a great but seems disheartened this year and that is no one’s fault but he’s own as he played every minute and didn’t produce. Bottom line is they are paid incredible money to produce, it’s about producing and not just playing. Football is harsh…. Sticking with a young player to get the best of him is one thing but sticking with an older player past his peak is completely different. I don’t think Mo is a toxic character but he is emotional and probably intimidates newer players with his CV rather than his personality, add to that he’s not playing now and he went to the press it’s probably best he goes this winter. I think a lot are waiting to see how we do when he goes to AFCON, just to see if an emotional weight is lifted of the newer players. The fact he’s been on the bench and didn’t come on last night I’d say it’s  turned toxic between him and Slot and words have probably been had between the two. I still remember when he embarrassed himself with Klopp when he didn’t play, if I was Slot, would I play a player that will try to show me up in front of everyone when he was being subbed off, subbed on or at the end of the game? probably not.

I think he’s acting entitled by going to the press and should be sanctioned, it’s unprofessional. Football paid him 400k per week to be a top player, football owes him nothing but he owes football professionalism because he is taking the money. It has to end sometime but it shouldn’t end like this, he’s the one throwing it away because of his ego. Do you bit for the team and younger players, quietly ask for a transfer and keep it professional.

Asked if his relationship with Slot had broken down, he said: "Yeah, there's no relationship between us. It was a very good relationship and now all of a sudden there is no relationship." Basically saying our relationship was good when I played every minute.

For the record, it’s not Mo’s fault we are failing, us conceding so many goals is the issue. He is making it worse though by acting like a prima Donna. No one mentioned it was his fault except him.

Once players fall off it goes quickly. I think I would be best for all parties involved if Salah leaves in january to Saudi.
