I think he's a better player for not having to listen to Carra balling his head off :D

what the feck has happened to martin skrtel?? he's transformed from a clumsy oaf into one of the best CBs in the league in recent weeks. is it from working with steve clarke, or is it having agger as a partner instead of carragher? whatever it is, just about every aspect of his game has seen a massive improvement - his passing is much more measured, he always seems to be in the right place (check out last nights clearance for a prime example), and he is even providing a goal threat at corners and other set pieces. definitely the most improved player of this season.

Good luck to the lad, in a great run of form alongside Agger.

I think many of his problems stemmed from the constant switching of centre backs ( Agger and Carra ). Now he has settled down, matured a bit and appears to have his game head on he looks the class centre back we always wanted.

Agreed his passing has improved, his aerial ability is also fantastic.

Good stuff

I'm happily going to eat humble pie here.  I have never fancied Skrtel as a central defender.  Always thought he shirked responsibility at times, looked nervous in big games, was prone to giving away silly free kicks and was found positionally wanting too often.

His transformation since Kenny took over (or perhaps more to the point since Clarke came into the coaching set up) has been excellent.  Fair play to him.  He is also good for a goal and not since Hyypia have we had a centre back who is a genuine threat attacking set pieces.

Don't get me wrong, there are clearly better centre backs out there, but this season he surely has to be a contender for our player of the season?

I do worry about him and Carra as a pair for the next few games, they've always looked our weakest pairing in recent seasons, but I don't know if the stats back that up.

Keep up the good work Skrtel.

And on another note, look what a bit of confidence has done for Lucas and now Skrtel.  A few should remember that as they lay into the likes of Carroll and Henderson who aren't even the finished article as footballers yet.

Hes got to be a future captain candidate.

Its not just his performances, his personality is shining through more and more. At the end of extra time he was going round the players trying to gee them up.. Suarez on the ground was one example.

Hes become one of the first names on the teamsheet.
