this is the day where we will all hold out breath to see if liverpool can over come and beat bayer leverkusen..it maybe a little to early but im geting prepaired now because it is out next game and i really want to beat them..      Bayer Leverkusen's Jen Nowotny is quietly confident his side can record another famous victory over Liverpool when the two sides clash in the up coming last 16 of the Champions League. (liverpoolfc/tv)
beating them after him saying this would feel all the better  :D

We'll have to see who's in our side when we play them.  We don't even have Gerrard, so we will be forced to play Biscan, and I hesitate to reccomend any youngsters.  It will be interesting to say the least

why do we have to play biscan ? Can't we play smicer & hamann midfield combo ?

At least we know that simcer can spring some attacking moves .......... Biscan does not bring anything to the table.

                        Dudek
    Finnan    Carra    Hyppia   Traore
    Nunez     Hamann  Smicer  Riise
                        Garcia
                         Baros

Simcer, Garcia & nunez playing in their favoured positions....maybe the trio can have the game of their lives and push us to the next stage.

We have to go for a win @ anfield.....another cautious 4-5-1 formation with biscan....and we won't score.

Since when was Smicer a central midfielder?

We played Biscan and Hamann against Deportivo in Spain and won the game. <-----reminder

Since when smicer wasn't a central midfielder ???

He played some of his best football when houllier played him there last season.

And if you want to use 1 example of hamann & biscan combo working...then i have nothing else to add.......

we won by a own goal --------> remember.

Smicer is sh1t, thats a given and always has been. You're suggesting that we play a player no where near match fitness in  one of the most important matches of the season. Perhaps you should be our next manager.

If we're going to play Smicer as a central midfielder we might as well play Garcia in the same position as well.

"we won by a own goal --------> remember. "

Hamann and Biscan had an outstanding game, whether its an own goal or a 50 yard cracker a win is a win.

We have no other "natural" central midfielders therefore we can't play anybody else.

Harry Kewell may be fit by the time we play Bayer which is a plus in my book.

I know it would probably be a bad idea to introduce a new formation in this very important game, but under our somewhat special circumstances, IMHO I would do this.

                      Dudek
       Finnan                      Traore
              Carragher  Hyypia
                      Hamann
       Smicer                      Riise
              Garcia      Kewell
                    Baros

The idea of this is to give Baros more direct support, put Kewell into a role where he shone for Leeds (althoug he was behind two strikers usually), flood the mid-field and play to our strengths. We have a lot of fit attacking midfield options at the mo (Kewell, Nunez, Smicer, Riise, Garcia...) so we may as well use them. Of course this is pure speculation and it will almost certainly not be the case, but it is fun to speculate and it does make you wonder how to utilise the players we have left. Of course if Mori wasn't cup tied, this would be so much simpler and it sucks that these stupid rules will force us to mess up our style even more. It will be interesting to see how this goes and I stil think that both legs will go down to the wire.

I think our best tactic will be , First and foremost keep a clean sheet at Anfield and look to nick a goal . Hopefully we'll have a stronger side available for the second leg and can knock in a goal or two.
The tie could be decided on AWAY goals.

If the players are giving 110% like JC, we might have a good game... if they play like last weekend.... then that's it......

1-0 at home will not be enough imo. leverkeusen are very strong at home so we really need a two goal cushion going over there.

I think that biscan will play well against leverkusen, i think the reason that he doesn't play well in premiership matches is that he can't adapt to the speed of the premiership but i have a feeling that he will play well against leverkusen.

The fact that we played a very poor game againsst birmingham might be a good thing as we're usually quite good at bouncing back and the players will want to win more.
