JAVIER MASCHERANO - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby RED BEERGOGGLES » Wed Sep 08, 2010 5:00 pm

From the ESPN website

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has described the loss of midfielder Javier Mascherano to Barcelona this summer as a "big problem" for the Merseyside club.

Mascherano completed a £17 million transfer to Camp Nou at the end of August to bring to an end a three-and-a-half year stay at Anfield in which he had proved to be a vital cog in the Liverpool side, anchoring the midfield and expertly breaking up play.

Reds manager Roy Hodgson has compensated for his departure by recruiting Christian Poulsen from Juventus and Raul Meireles from Porto, while Liverpool also have Brazilian Lucas who can perform in a withdrawn role.

However, Reina believes that Mascherano's exit represents a real setback for Liverpool as they aim to reclaim their place in the Champions League.

"The departure of Mascherano is a big problem for Liverpool because he is one of the best players of his type on the pitch," Reina said in The Mirror. "Javier is very competitive, very Argentinian and he always offers his maximum in every game. For Barca this is a good new thing, but it's not for us.

"Mascherano will be a positive surprise in La Liga. He is a footballer who works, works and works. Also, personally, he is a good character. He is quiet but very friendly.

"He was not someone who got into controversy. He never caused rows in the dressing room. He was good on the pitch, broke up counter attacks and now we need other players with his characteristics."

Reina obviously holds the same fears of the fans who believe Liverpool will be weaker for his departure ,he also believes as do some fans  that Mascherano's supposed Histrionics where completely out of character

It wont be long before he adjusts to Barcelona's style of play ...quality players who happen to be world class always do and Mascherano is exactly that .....the best defensive midfielder on the planet

You cheeky bas, tard, We sung your name Javier even when we knew you wanted out, we supported you , we loved you , absolutly disgusted with him saying this, Its yours MRS fault your freezin your ar,se off on the Barca bench, NOT OURS

Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has hit out at Liverpool for the way they handled his and Fernando Torres's exits - even though he left the club of his own choice.

The Argentina international described as "sad" the manner in which players had to leave a club they had served well, claiming "the people at Liverpool didn't show interest in keeping" them, even though he rejected a contract offer to stay at Anfield.

Following Torres's £50 million transfer to Chelsea on deadline day the Spaniard has been castigated for his comments suggesting he is better off at Stamford Bridge than he was at Anfield.

"I was not surprised about what happened with Fernando," Mascherano was quoted as saying by ESPN.

"When I left Liverpool, it looked as if I killed someone. It is sad that the people who did something important with the club have to leave by the back door.

"It is sad that the press and the club try to convince people that it is all the player's fault when the reality is that Liverpool didn't show the interest in keeping us in the club.

"The most important players didn't leave the club well. I spoke with Fernando and I said to him that he doesn't have to be worried because he did his best for the club. Even though he didn't win any trophies, he was a very important player and helped this club all the time."

he probably wrote this whilst warming the bench the other day or was it the week before, or was it even the week before that, you get my drift.

here`s gratitude from a player we rescued from west hams reserves, a player who refused to play for us, just another one we need to forget.
