LFC2007 wrote:I have no real idea who Hazard etc.. are, tbh (and who here actually watches French/Belgian etc.. football anyway ??? ) but I think it's about time we bought someone a bit special, a real talent for now and the future, and chances are they're more likely to be found on the continent than anywhere else. If, say, we signed Hazard and he turned out to be ridiculously good, helping the team push up the table and win a cup or something, then that would obviously improve our chances of keeping our best players at the club. Then, in the summer, we could have a proper stab at re-building the squad and by then we might also have a new manager to go with it. (and I don't really accept that it would unwise to spend big on players in January because a new manager might be needed in the summer....kwality is kwality) It'll likely take longer to build a title challenging squad but it needn't take five years if we make the right moves in the short-term, and going by what Reina said on the topic not so long ago, I reckon he and other key players have a similar outlook. But right now it's in the balance.

On Carlton Cole, no thanks. Better than Ngog, yes, but he isn't a big goal threat and without that a striker needs to make up for it in what they do in the build up, and he is frankly nothing special in that respect, and I wouldn't call him especially good in the air either. Crouch is a better player, so is Kenywyne Jones, Darren Bent, Pavlyunchenko etc.. and they're about the minimum standard I think we should accept.

Hazard is the guy who ripped our defense to pieces in Lille last season.  Amazing talent.

Arsenal do have a brand new 60000 seater stadium & finish in the top four year after year without spending much. He can't be that bad.

so tell me if he thats good a manager why does he never buy english players surely if he thats good he could teach anyone. Look at theo has he really improved that much since the day he bought him? And finally why hasnt he bought a decent keeper for the past 5 years when everyone else on the planet  can see what he obviously doesnt. Its all nice in theory this build for the future but in reality it doesnt work.

It seems that you do not understand what Arsenal are doing.  It is obviously clear that their goal is to stay in the top 4 and bring in the money to pay off their stadium debt.  Trophies are not the priority right now, otherwise Wenger would have been fired long ago.  Arsene is not a moron, he would buy all the right players if he had the money and his team would kick everyone's :censored: I guarantee you that.

Now about English players.  How many of them are there that can play the type of football that Arsenal and Barcelona play.  My answer would be very few.  And those that do have potential are extremely overpriced.  Btw Arsenal do have 2 Englishmen in their team Wilshire and Walcott.

From what I've seen (a little bit), he looks like a very technical player who can make space for himself, loads of tricks and has an excellent right foot shot. I haven't seen his intelligence play to comment on him, but in terms of technical ability he is really good for an 18 year old.

hes an immense player whos gonna go right to the top if we dont move heaven and earth to get him here we havnt got the ambition and dont deserve success

Parchpea - I was at the Newcastle - Chelsea game last weekend and Jose Enrique was perhaps the best player on the pitch.  He looks so solid these days and has a good turn of pace when it comes to getting forward.  We could do a lot worse, and have done by signing Konchesky, who is an extremely limited player imo.

Quality player that Enrique.
Hardly ever gives the ball away, doesnt get beaten one on one very often and like you said is no slouch.
Would be a very decent buy if possible.

I'd steer clear of him, personally. I have a memory of him that suggests he is far too dodgy. Same goes for that Jonas Guttierez who people were raving about when he first arrived.

And what of those other names that people on here used to mention, like Arda Turan, Peter Kjaer, Diamanti, Dzeko etc. etc...? Are any of them still worth a shout?

I think Arda Turan's contract is up in the summer. Kjaer signed for Wolfsburg in the summer so he's out.

Dzeko is a quality player although there will probably be a few other clubs looking at him.
My new blog for my upcoming holiday.
