Gary Cahill and Steven Ireland again linked today.

Yes please although I think Steven Taylor @ Newcastle may be a more realistic (and cheaper given his contractual position) option for us!

Yeah lets bring overpriced :censored: just because they are are not spanish, french or whatever. We need to do it like Wenger bringing in most bang for the buch all the time.

You're always right, lay off the crackpipe ya fud. :nod

Luke Varney potentially a good signing?. He's 28 years old, and been passed about the lower leagues like a copy of readers wives in Walton nick. :p

Matt Jarvis is a good player, for Wolves might I add but not the calibre we need.

The only one I won't disagree with is Marc Albrighton now that lad looks class.

If we sign Carlton Cole I really will abandon all hope. That left back Jose Enrique at Newcastle looks like hes improved a bit as well, we could do worse in a problem position.

If we sign C Cole its like bringing Heskey in all over again, it'll be hoof and knock down and after 6 season of it under Houllier no thanks, it may have worked then but we had Owen who was lightning quick and thrived on that kind of service. Having Torres feeding off knock downs is like asking Natalie Portman over for dinner and buying her a pot noodle.

bensmith_times    Reports that Carlton Cole has agreed a deal to join #lfc in Jan are wide of the mark ... for now at least #whufc

bensmith_times    #lfc did bid for Cole on last day of previous window, so may well try again. Not the solution in my view

Rocky why do you insist you are always right?  :D

Albrighton is ok but I don't think Villa will let him go. Also we didn't let Johnson slip, we were never in for him in the first place.

I have no real idea who Hazard etc.. are, tbh (and who here actually watches French/Belgian etc.. football anyway ??? ) but I think it's about time we bought someone a bit special, a real talent for now and the future, and chances are they're more likely to be found on the continent than anywhere else. If, say, we signed Hazard and he turned out to be ridiculously good, helping the team push up the table and win a cup or something, then that would obviously improve our chances of keeping our best players at the club. Then, in the summer, we could have a proper stab at re-building the squad and by then we might also have a new manager to go with it. (and I don't really accept that it would unwise to spend big on players in January because a new manager might be needed in the summer....kwality is kwality) It'll likely take longer to build a title challenging squad but it needn't take five years if we make the right moves in the short-term, and going by what Reina said on the topic not so long ago, I reckon he and other key players have a similar outlook. But right now it's in the balance.

On Carlton Cole, no thanks. Better than Ngog, yes, but he isn't a big goal threat and without that a striker needs to make up for it in what they do in the build up, and he is frankly nothing special in that respect, and I wouldn't call him especially good in the air either. Crouch is a better player, so is Kenywyne Jones, Darren Bent, Pavlyunchenko etc.. and they're about the minimum standard I think we should accept.

I think we will see that eventually. I'm sure Comolli has a list of targets already drawn up for the summer.
